Played with a retro-style MAMA word design and this is the one that kinda took off. Four big chunky letters in a classic 1970s groovy font, each letter divided up into organic colour sections like someone sliced em and filled each slice with a different colour. Red, orange, yellow, lime green, purple, and gold all sitting next to each other inside those thick black outlined borders. Its loud in the best possible way, very that-decade energy without being kitschy.

Seven colours total, which means seven thread swaps across the run. Each colour section inside the letters uses a dense tatami fill at 793 stitches per square inch, and the big black outline around each letter is a wide satin border stitch that gives the whole design that bold graphic-print look. The letters have a proper underlay built in so none of the colour sections bleed into each other when youre stitching on stretchy or medium-weight fabric. Digitised in my workhorse software and optimised so the black outline stitches last, which is the right order for keeping those colour boundaries crisp.

Ive had a customer reach out last spring saying she stitched the 4-in piece on the front of a cream sweatshirt as a Mothers Day gift and her mum actually wore it out to brunch the next weekend. That kind of feedback is what makes a design like this worth every extra bobbin. Nine sizes from 2.05 by 3.51 inches up to 4.37 by 7.51 inches, stitch count runs from 9,874 up to 26,025 on the largest, so this is a thread-hungry design on the big sizes.

Use a firm cutaway stabiliser on any fabric, this density level will drag a light tearaway. Best on medium-weight cotton fleece, sweatshirt fabric, canvas or denim. White, cream, or black backgrounds let all seven colours read clearly. Avoid busy printed fabric, the multicolour fill will compete and youll lose half the impact. Hoop snug, run at standard speed or slightly slower on the dense fill sections so your bobbin tension stays even all the way through.

Reach out if any of the fill sections on your machine are coming out stripey rather than smooth, that sometimes happens with older tension setups on seven-colour runs and Ill suggest tension settings that smooth the fill.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
