This is a proper portrait of a cow, not the usual cartoon version. She stares straight out with wide eyes that have that slightly tired, very calm look cows actually have. Theres a fluffy forelock tuft between the ears, and the brown and tan shading across the cheeks and forehead builds up in layers so it reads like a watercolour wash. The muzzle is pink, the outline detail comes in black ink-style lines, and behind the face sits a loose splash shape in pale cream and off-white that gives it that painted background feeling.

my digitising suite routed the ten colour sequence so the lighter cream tones lay down first, then the mid brown fills on top, then the darker brown shading last before the black ink lines close everything out. That layering order is what creates the depth. I dont do it any other way now because I occured to run a flat-fill version years ago and it looked completely flat, no warmth at all. The directional satin on the face runs with the contour of each feature so the forehead sheen is different from the cheek sheen. Use a cutaway stabiliser, that cream wash area around the face has light density stitching that pulls unevenly if you try a tearaway there.

Density runs at 1032 on the face proper and lighter across the background wash. Four sizes from 3.61 to 6.01 inches wide. Stitch this on natural linen or heavy cotton canvas and it genuinely looks like a framed print. Add a topping on any textured fabric so the ink-line details dont sink into the weave. Skip thin polyester satin, the shading layers need a fabric with some tooth to hold properly.

A customer ordered the large 6-inch file last autumn for a set of farmhouse kitchen towels she was gifting. She stitched all four in one sitting and said each one came out cleaner than the last as she got the tension dialled in. Use cutaway backing and run a slow speed on the cream wash section and youll be fine.

Works on linen, heavy denim, and woven cotton twill. Run it on a tote bag for the farmers market or stitch it onto a cushion panel for a reading corner. The kind of design that looks like it belongs on a kitchen shelf next to the old canning jars.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Farmhouse kitchen linen panelsThe 6-inch size fills a linen tea towel centre panel with the splash background reading clearly on white linen
  • Country home throw cushion coversStitch on a natural cotton canvas cushion cover; the layered brown tones suit a neutral farmhouse palette
  • Farm-themed tote bags for marketsThe 5-inch file sits well on a large natural canvas tote centred just below the handle line
  • Rustic gift bags for farm shop productsa 4-in size on a small cotton drawstring bag makes a clean rustic gift wrap alternative
  • Denim shirt yoke or pocket panela 4-in size on a denim shirt back yoke panel works well with the ink-sketch line weight
  • Country wedding favour pouchesSmall muslin pouches with this design tie nicely as country wedding favours with a twine bow
  • Framed hoop art for farmhouse decorHoop art in a 7-inch ring on natural linen reads like a framed farmhouse illustration straight away

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
