My customers kept asking for something halloween that felt warm instead of scary, so back in september I worked up this cozy season design with the autumn elements built in. Twenty-two colours is alot for a 3.22 inch design, but the composition needed the full range, the warm oranges and burnt ambers for the leaves, the muted purples for the halloween accents, and the creamy whites for the ghost and steam details. At 24488 stitches and a density of 336, its digitised in my usual software with the leaf cluster stitched before the pumpkins so the overlap reads naturally.

Heres the thing with 22-colour designs, you really do need to run all the stops in sequence and not skip any, even if they look similar on screen. Colours 14 and 15 are close tones but they handle different parts of the leaf shading, so swapping em or combining em flattens the depth. Pair tearaway with the any medium-weight fabric, tearaway is fine on stiff cotton canvas. I had one customer email me last october saying she ran it on a mustard-coloured sweatshirt and the halloween ghost elements really popped against the warm background tone, which made sense because the digitising was set up with a contrast underlay in mind.

Run it at a moderate machine speed, 22 colour changes with the jump trims between elements means the machine is stopping and starting alot, and rushing it on a older machine can misalign the registration between the pumpkin outlines and their fill passes. Use a topping on any textured fleece or brushed cotton, the leaf detail in the 22-colour palette really benefits from a clean satin pass surface. Stitch the ghost accent last because its built to sit on top of everything else in the sequence. Email me through the shop contact if you need a colour-reduced variant and Ill prep the file.

Place it on the front of a halloween sweatshirt, a fall-season tote, or an autumn table runner and it reads as halloween without being aggressive about it. Email me if any of the twenty-two stops look off, I keep the original my embroidery software file and can pull the thread reference for any colour that looks muddy.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
