Whipped up the crazy stitched smile emoji with that punk patch vibe Ive been into alot lately. Round yellow face, big black scar marks crossing the forehead and one cheek like its been stitched back together. Half-shut woozy eyes, lopsided grin, soft pink tongue lolling out one side. Six colours total, properly chunky outline.

The scar marks are short black satin stitches laid in little ladder rungs so they actually read as stitched-on scars instead of random scribbles. Yellow face is a directional fill running top to bottom which catches the light and gives the cheek a soft round feel. Black grin and eye slits sit on top in heavier satin so they pop against the yellow. And the lil tongue uses two pink tones so it looks dimensional, not flat.

I drew this one for the goth-cute crowd, punk patch makers and anyone customising denim jackets. Spans 3.51 by 3.48 inches at the small end, scaling up to 7.5 by 7.45, so it works as a sleeve patch or a full back piece. A customer ordered the 5-inch last halloween for a batch of denim jackets she sold at a local market. Said the scar detail was what people kept picking up.

For best results stitch on heavier woven fabric. Black or charcoal denim, washed twill, raw canvas tote, even a thick cotton jersey hoodie. The yellow really sings on dark fabric. Skip slippery satin or chiffon, the dense yellow fill will pucker the lightweight stuff. But also skip very pale cream backgrounds, the yellow gets washed out and dont read.

Density runs around 799 spi with up to 44k on the biggest size, so its heavy. Pop in a polymesh stabiliser with a no-show backer underneath. Hoop properly tight and slow the machine down for the scar bars so they sit clean on top of the yellow underlay. Holler at me on chat if a tone reads off and Ill rerun the stitch order for you.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Denim jacket back patchesStitch the 7-inch on the back of a black denim jacket for a centre patch that reads loud at a punk show or festival
  • Punk-style hoodie chest hitsPop the 4-inch on the chest of a charcoal hoodie and pair with a small chain stitch tag for a goth-cute streetwear capsule
  • Festival tote bag frontsPlace the 5-inch on a raw canvas tote front for a market stall that sells weird stickers, pins and patch goods
  • Skate-style beanie embroideryEmbroider the small size on a black acrylic beanie cuff for skate shop merch or a friends birthday gift
  • Distressed canvas backpack flapSew the 6-inch piece on a distressed olive backpack flap so the scarred smiley peeks out when the bag is slung over a shoulder
  • Halloween costume jacket detailAdd the 5-inch to a navy denim jacket sleeve for a halloween costume that needs a proper unhinged accent
  • Concert merch tee chest hitPlace the 4-inch on a black band tee chest hit so the punk smiley becomes the pocket-print focal piece
  • Black work-shirt sleeve patchPop the 3.5 face on the sleeve of a black mechanic-style work shirt for a kinda goth-vibe daily wear addition

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
