Made this one after alot of requests for a clean butterfly design that didnt have any fussy colour work. This one is 3 butterflies, stacked and overlapping like they're caught mid-flutter. The wings are all solid black satin, filled in with directional stitching that follows the natural curve of each wing panel. Theres no outline, no gradient, just the shape itself doing the work.

The density sits at 751 stitches per square centimetre across the full hooped area. At the largest size (7.38 in wide) the stitch count hits 41,565, so youre gonna want a heavy cutaway stabiliser underneath. Medium-weight woven cotton or a dark linen works well. At the smaller 3.45 in size its only 10,245 stitches which makes it totally manageable on lighter knits too. the digitising software mapped the directional fill across all 5 sizes so the wing structure reads cleanly at every scale.

One customer messaged last spring about wedding-keepsake hoops and while we were talking she asked me if the wings actually look layered on fabric, and yeah, they do. The way the satin runs at slightly different angles across each butterfly creates a subtle depth even in a single-colour file. this is one of those builds where the digitising does more work than it looks like it should.

Add it to anything in a dark navy, forest green, or white ground and it pops hard. Pick a cotton twill tote if you want the satin to really shine, or use a stretch stabiliser and stitch it on a jersey hoodie. Avoid topping on smooth satin fabric as the underlay can show through at density 751. Best results on a tight-weave cotton with a firm hooped setup.

If anything looks off once its stitched out, just holler and ill sort it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Nature-themed tote bags and canvas pouchesThe solid black silhouette reads well on natural canvas and cream cotton totes with no extra colour needed.
  • Denim jacket back panels and sleeve patchesStitches flat on denim with a firm cutaway stabiliser and the wings span nicely across a jacket back at the 7-inch size.
  • Black linen throw pillows and cushion coversHigh-contrast look on black or charcoal linen pillows when stitched in white thread instead of black.
  • Kids backpacks and school bag patchesKids love the bold butterfly shape and it works great centred on a backpack front pocket at the small 3.5 build.
  • Butterfly collector wall hoop art in black threadThree butterflies in a cluster fill a 6-inch hoop nicely for a framed wall piece.
  • Wedding favour bags and bridal shower giftsDelicate enough at the smaller sizes to stitch onto organza favour bags for a garden wedding.
  • Garden-themed aprons and kitchen linensCentred on a linen apron bib the silhouette cluster looks really clean and not too busy.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
