Two butterflies on a curling vine, 1 sitting near the top and 1 lower down, the vine flowing between them with looping scroll details. Its black outline only, no fill, so the butterfly wings have these seriously fine internal vein marks and the vine curls look almost like pen calligraphy. The kind of thing that looks too delicate to stitch but comes out clean on the machine.

The vertical orientation is what makes it useful for clothing work. Narrow and tall means it fits a sleeve, a collar side, a cuff band, or the spine of a tote bag. My niece used the 5-inch on a white linen shirt sleeve last spring and it honestly looked like something from a boutique. She was suprised how clearly the fine wing detail read on plain fabric. Stitch count runs from just 2,565 on the small 3.5-inch up to 4,754 on the 7.5-inch, which is genuinely low for 9 sizes and means its quick to stitch out.

Tearaway stabiliser works on most wovens, even lightweight linen and cotton voile. Use a wash-away topping on terry cloth or any textured fabric to keep the fine outlines from sinking into the weave. Hoop on the straight grain or the scroll elements drift sideways. Single black thread throughout, no colour changes, no bobbin fuss. Black rayon or polyester thread keeps the lines crisp through washing and doesnt fade on light fabric.

Try it on a white cotton shirt sleeve, cream linen tote strap, muslin sachet, pale sage napkin border. Light fabrics let the outline work breathe. Skip very dark fabrics unless youre stitching in white or gold thread, white on navy looks beautiful aswell. Message me if the file doesnt sit right in your software and ill fix it same day.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Shirt sleeve and cuff border embroideryStitch the 5-inch down a white linen shirt sleeve for a boutique-style detail that looks hand-drawn and deliberate.
  • Linen tote bag spine or side panelRun the tall orientation along the spine of a cream canvas tote and it fills the narrow panel without crowding.
  • Muslin sachet and gift bag decorationPop the small 3.5-in feature on a muslin sachet for a handmade gift with lavender or dried flowers inside.
  • Pale napkin border for a tablescape setEmbroider along a pale sage napkin hem for a botanical tablescape and repeat across 6 napkins for a set.
  • Botanical boutique clothing labels and tagsUse on small hang-tag panels for a botanical boutique clothing range where the minimal line work matches the brand.
  • Framed wall art on white cotton or linenFrame the 7.5-inch in a 10-inch white hoop against cream linen for minimal wall art that suits any room.
  • Bridal accessories like sashes and veil edgesStitch the smallest size along a bridal sash or veil edge and the delicate wing outline keeps it bridal-appropriate.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
