Worked up this floral pumpkin design for people who want autumn on their projects without it screaming trick-or-treat. The pumpkin body is a solid silhouette but the interior holds scrolling botanical motifs, curved vines, fleur-de-lis flourishes and leaf shapes that read like Victorian botanical illustrations. The stem has its own decorative swirl at the top which ties the whole thing together nicely.
Just 1 colour, black throughout, but the floral fill detail reads as white negative space where the fabric background shows through the open areas. On cream linen or oatmeal cotton the effect is genuinely beautiful, looks like a printed fabric not embroidery at all. I genuinely didnt expect how clean it comes out even at the smaller sizes, the 2.5 inch version still holds enough detail to read as floral, not just a patterned blob.
A customer this autumn ordered the 5 inch version for a set of cream linen napkins for a thanksgiving table and sent me photos. The black on cream with all that botanical detail made the napkins look expensive in the best way, its the kind of result where people ask if you bought it at a shop rather than made it yourself. Stitch count goes from 8,252 at the smallest up to 35,453 at the 7.4 inch size.
Six sizes from 2.47 up to 7.4 inches wide. Use cutaway on any stretch fabric and firm tearaway on woven cotton or linen. Skip busy patterned or dark backgrounds, the silhouette needs clear contrast. Pop the 5 inch version onto cream canvas or linen for the best result. Avoid synthetic sheer fabrics where the density cant sit flat without proper backing underneath.
