Five or six bat silhouettes caught mid-flight, spread across the design space at different angles and sizes to give that scattered swarm feeling. None of them are cartoonish, the wings are proper bat wing shapes with the pointed tips and the curved membrane between, and the bodies are small relative to the wings. The density is deliberately set at 281 stitches per square inch which gives the silhouette a clean crisp edge without the fill pulling on lighter fabrics.
This runs as a single colour job from start to finish. No colour changes, no thread swaps, just thread up once and let the machine go. Email me if your machine asks for a colour change mid-file, that shouldnt happen, and Ill send you a corrected version. At the 3.19 by 3.5-inch size the stitch count is only 5,167 which is genuinely fast, under 3 minutes on most home machines. The large 6.84 by 7.5-inch version reaches 14,428 stitches but still finishes well under 10 minutes. Last October I had a customer batch-stitch this on 12 tote bags in a single evening for a Halloween market stall, and she said the quick turnaround made it the practical choice.
Use a cutaway stabiliser even though the density is low, the wide wing spans can shift during stitching on woven fabrics without a firm base. Dont skip the underlay on smooth cotton either. If youre running this on velvet or fine fleece use a dissolving topping to stop the satin fill sections from sinking into the pile. Stitch on black cotton, dark navy, or charcoal grey where the bat silhouettes become properly atmospheric rather than just decorative.
Add the 5-in chest size on a jacket back panel, it fills the space without competing with the seams. Pair it with a ghost design on the chest for a full Halloween set. Email me if anything looks off in the file.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Halloween jacket back panels and bomber sleevesBomber jacket back panel at the full 6.8-inch width, the scattered swarm fills the space without looking cramped.
- Seasonal tote bags and shopping bagsKitchen runner border in a dark charcoal thread, each bat at a different angle reads as movement across the table.
- Throw pillow covers in dark fabricsBeach blanket corner patch, the low 281 density means the fill stays soft and doesnt stiffen the blanket.
- Halloween wall hoop art on black linenNavy canvas book bag for a gothic reader, dark thread on dark fabric for a tone-on-tone whisper effect.
- Kids Halloween costumes and cape panelsDenim jacket breast pocket panel, black silhouette on indigo, no topping needed on tightly woven denim.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
