Three birds, each one hovering at a slightly different angle so the overall shape isnt a flat horizontal bar. The composition staggers them vertically too, one sits higher than the others, which gives the group a sense of real movement. Its a two-colour file officially, but the directional satin and density variation across each bird make the feathers actually read as feathers rather than flat fills. Tight angle changes in the satin mimic the blur of a hover.

Worked up in Wilcom. Density is 902 which is right for the feather work, you dont want it looser or the shimmer on the breast sections breaks up at smaller sizes. Seven sizes from 5.5 inches wide at the smallest to 8.5 inches at the largest, stitch counts from 16,651 to 27,458. The design is landscape-oriented and thats important for placement planning. Hooped on a standard 5x7 frame the small size runs fine, the 8.5-inch version needs a larger hoop. Pair with a firm cutaway stabiliser onto a cream cushion cover to stabilise those wide wingspans during the satin fill passes. Topping on any nubby or textured fabric helps the beak-tip detail stitch clearly.

Last autumn a customer stitched this on a cream linen cushion and said youd swear each bird had individual feathers. The sapphire and emerald tones sit beautifully against the natural cream, and the scarlet throat patch on the centre bird becomes the focal point the whole pillow needs. Ive run this same size on tea towels and it holds up well at 5.5 inches across a wider panel. Send me a photo when yours is done, I genuinely like seeing where these end up.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Cream or linen throw pillow centrepieceThe 8.5-inch size fills a standard cushion front as a centrepiece with room on all sides.
  • Tea towel with garden or botanical themeAt 5.5 inches it sits across a tea towel panel without running past the hemmed edges.
  • Cotton table runner panel at larger sizesA cotton table runner benefits from the horizontal orientation at 7-8 inches spanning the centre band.
  • Framed linen art piece for a garden roomFramed on natural linen at 6-7 inches it makes a simple wall piece for a garden or sunroom.
  • Polo shirt back yoke at the 5.5-inch sizeThe 5.5-inch size fits a polo back yoke cleanly without curving over the shoulder seam.
  • Tote bag with nature or birdwatching themeA canvas tote front panel at 7 inches gives a botanical nature feel for birdwatching gifts.
  • Baby quilt block for a nursery nature themeAt the smaller sizes the trio fits a quilt block square for a nature-themed baby room project.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
