All black, one colour thread, tall and narrow. The jellyfish sits vertical in the frame with the rounded bell at the top. Decorative ribs fan across the bell like a pointed arch window. Below the bell the main tentacles drop straight down, long and trailing, but coming off each main strand are delicate side branches with feathery fringe ends, like the tentacles split into smaller filaments the further down they go. Small scattered circles sit around the whole composition, just suggesting bubbles rather than drawing them in full.

It's not a cartoon jellyfish at all. I'd put it somewhere between a tattoo flash and a natural history illustration, the kind of detailed linework you'd see in a 19th century sea-life print. I've had orders come through from folks doing gothic home decor, ocean-themed wedding stationery props and coastal fashion pieces. Its flexible enough for all three without looking out of place in any.

Nine sizes. The narrowest is 1.37 by 3.5 inches, the widest is 2.93 by 7.5. It's a tall skinny design so it suits narrow placements. Try it on shirt cuffs, bag sides, towel borders or trouser leg seams. Stitch count goes from 7,238 on the smallest up to 18,740 on the large, density at 853 per square inch. Use a fresh needle, keep your stabiliser firm, and choose cutaway over tearaway. Fine running-stitch lines on a dense design like this'll show skipped stitches if the needle's dragging at all.

Works beautifully on white linen, pale sand or a deep navy background where the black line really pops. I keep this one in mind for folks who want something design-forward rather than cute. A customer wrote me last month about stitching it on the cuff of a white linen shirt and Im glad they did, it's a placement I hadn't thought of and it looks genuinely considered at that scale. Thats the kind of feedback that actually helps me understand where designs land in the real world. Message the shop with your order if theres a sizing question and Ill find a thread substitute that keeps the monochrome look if you want to try a deep charcoal instead of true black.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Shirt cuff or collar detail on a white linen blouseStitch the 3.5-in placement on a white linen shirt cuff so the tentacles trail down toward the wrist, reads like a considered fashion detail
  • Beach tote side panel in the tall narrow orientationPlace the 7-inch on the narrow side panel of a canvas beach tote so the tentacles drape from the top handle down
  • Bathroom hand towel border on white terryRun the 5-inch along the bottom border of a white terry hand towel for a bathroom set with a coastal theme
  • hoop wall piece for a coastal bedroomMount the large version in a 10-inch hoop and frame it flat for a coastal bedroom wall piece that looks like a print
  • Denim jacket sleeve or back yokeStitch the 5-inch down the outer sleeve of a denim jacket as a single graphic stripe from shoulder to cuff
  • Gym bag or kit bag side stripAdd the medium on the side strip of a black gym bag so the jellyfish tentacles run parallel to the zip line
  • Swimsuit cover-up pocket on a linen pareoPlace the small size on the chest pocket of a linen pareo for a beach cover-up detail that looks fashion rather than novelty
  • Notebook cover in black thread on natural canvasRun the 4-inch on natural canvas stretched over a notebook cover for a sketchbook gift that doesnt need any other decoration

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
