Sketched this one out as a lil fashion illustration that could work on pretty much anything from tote bags to shirt pockets. Its a woman facing slightly sideways, wearing one of those big dramatic wide-brim hats with a ribbon bow at the back. Her hair flows down long past her shoulders in heavy black satin fills, and the only colour break in the whole design is a small red lip accent, ya know, just enough to give it character without overdoing it.

I ran Wilcom for the file, and the underlay on the wide brim runs a double-layer grid to keep that large flat satin area from shifting on woven fabrics. I mapped the hair strands in directional fills that follow the natural fall of the locks, so they dont read like a flat solid block. The density sits at 585, which is on the lighter side for a fashion piece, but it keeps the brim from going stiff and cardboard-y on thinner cotton.

Just 2 colours, Black and Red, so theres 1 colour change total and only 19 trims at the smallest size. Really quick to stitch out compared to most fashion designs. Even the 7.5-inch version comes in under 32,000 stitches. Use a medium cutaway stabiliser, especially on a woven tote or a linen pouch where ya want the silhouette crisp and flat. Stitch at normal speed, theres nothing delicate here that needs slowing down for. Pop it on a black fabric base for a tonal look, the red lips still reads through beautifully.

One customer asked for the 5-in size for cocktail napkins, I told her to go medium cutaway and she said it came out sharp. I wouldnt do tearaway on anything lighter than 12oz canvas though, the brim area is wide and needs the hold. 3 colours and two stops is pretty much as simple as it gets for a design this size.

Ping me if anything doesnt look right after you open the files and Ill fix it.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
