This Memorial Day design in navy, red and white is the one I keep coming back to when someone wants something patriotic that dosent look like a grocery store display. Its restraint is what I like. Theres no eagle, no fireworks, no thirteen-colours overload. Just the Iwo Jima scene on the left in solid navy tatami fill, four figures raising the flag on a rocky mound, then ten five-pointed stars in a ring around them, then four red satin wave stripes sweeping right like a simplified American flag field. And at the bottom, "Memorial Day" in this big flowing navy cursive with satin directional stitching on the outlines that gives the letters real weight. Three colours: navy, red, white. Im genuinely suprised more designs dont go this clean.

Stitch count runs around 8,172 at the smaller sizes and tops out near 18,091 at the largest, so have a fresh bobbin ready before the script section starts. Hoop your fabric flat with a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser under anything stretchy or textured, or those flag stripes will pucker if the underlay gets skipped. Pop this on navy fleece at 7.51 inches and the red really comes alive against that dark ground. Use a topping on terry cloth to stop the cursive sinking into the pile. Skip the tearaway on denim, cutaway just handles the density better there. A woman who runs a veterans craft table near me ordered nine of these on twill caps last week, said the star ring held its definition even at 3.51 inches which I wouldnt have expected.

Try it at 4 inches on a polo chest if you want something a bit more understated. Canvas tote bags at 5 inches look really clean, the red stripes against natural canvas is a solid combination. Center it carefully before you hoop because the cursive baseline sits slightly offset from the star circle, and if you start off-axis it shows.

Message me if the trims run long on your setup.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Military jacket back panelMy favourite spot for this is a twill jacket back, the 7-inch version centres perfectly and reads well at distance.
  • Cotton canvas tote bagTote bags take this well on canvas at 5 inches, and the red satin stripes stay crisp with a medium-weight tearaway backing.
  • Navy fleece throw blanketNavy fleece lets the red wave stripes really pop at the full 7.51-inch size against that dark ground.
  • Polo shirt chest placementA polo chest at the smallest size keeps it professional, the star ring holds its detail fine on pique cotton.
  • Linen table runnerLinen table runners look clean with the 5-inch centred, especially for a Memorial Day dinner setting.
  • Denim shirt yokeDenim shirt yokes at 4 inches work well, the cutaway handles the tatami density without lifting on the edges.
  • Framed display hoopFrame the largest size on white cotton in a display hoop for a dignified, no-fuss tribute piece.
  • Veterans organisation bannerHeavy canvas banners with cutaway backing handle the full 7.51-inch cleanly for organisation display work.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
