The scale pattern on the tail is the hardest part of any mermaid design. Each scale has to be individually defined in the fill angle so it catches light differently to its neighbours -- the varied angle is what gives the impression of dimension. Ive done mermaid designs before where the tail just looks flat, and its because the digitising didnt account for that. Here the teal shades layer from deep ocean tones at the base to a lighter seafoam at the tip, 10 colour stops total.
Mapped through Wilcom EmbroideryStudio, the whole design runs from 34,776 stitches at the 5.51 x 3.42 inch size to 54,681 at the largest 8.51 x 5.28 inches. 4 sizes only, and all of them are on the larger end -- intentionally a big design. Density of 1,217 means its rich and full. You need a proper heavy cutaway stabiliser and a machine that can handle the run time. Budget around 45-60 minutes at the largest size depending on your machine speed.
Best on aqua, sage, or ivory canvas tote fabric. The teal scales and coral seashells work best against a light neutral or complementary blue-green. Avoid white -- the lighter palette elements disappear. Use a topping on anything with surface texture. Hoop the fabric tight and check bobbin levels before you start -- at 54,681 stitches you dont want to run out mid-design. A customer who makes coastal home goods reached out last spring to say shed been running this on aqua linen and the bronze hair thread really catches the light. Thats the kind of feedback that confirms the colour choices were right.
Works on canvas totes, linen pillow panels, and framed hoop art. People tend to keep these rather than gift them away, which is either a compliment or a problem depending on who youre making it for.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
