This ocean whale design works in a single teal thread and I think thats exactly what makes it work. The whale is roughly humpback-shaped, swimming at a diagonal with the tail curving left and the body arching upward to the right. Three large open blooms, something between a peony and a magnolia, cluster right over the mid-section of the body. Their petals are outlined in satin stitch with the centres left open so they read as white against whatever thread colour you pick. Botanical leaf sprays and small stem details scatter around the flowers, some sitting inside the whale outline, others spilling past the edges.

Everything stitches in one colour, which is both the challenge and the point. Wilcom EmbroideryStudio handles the stitch direction changes across the whale body and the flower petals separately, so youre getting light and shadow variation even without a second thread. Density is 543 stitches per square inch, firm enough to hold the fine botanical stems but not so heavy the fabric pulls. Four sizes from 4.5 by 5 inches up to 7.2 by 8, all solid pieces with 31,340 stitches on the largest.

Pick a mid-weight fabric where the single colour can really show off. A customer in a coastal decor group stitched the large size in white on a dark navy linen cushion last christmas and the open flower centres caught the light in a way that looked almost like lacework. Its a lovely result for basically no faff.

Navy, slate, charcoal, dusty teal or white all work well as backgrounds. Avoid busy prints where the botanical detail disappears. Use a firm medium cutaway stabiliser, and float a layer of water-soluble topping on textured surfaces so the fine leaf lines run straight. One colour change means theres zero stop-start interruptions mid-hoop.

Stitch it on a bathroom hand towel, a nursery hoop, a beach house cushion. The combination of ocean creature and garden blooms is a bit unexpected and thats exactly why people keep coming back to it.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
