Poppy borders are one of those designs customers keep coming back to, and honestly I get why. This one runs horizontally with poppy heads facing forward, round open petals, thin curved stems, and small buds tucked in between the main flowers. Its got that clean botanical illustration feel without being fussy.

Reach out any time if a single flower version suits your project better, I can usually customise that arrangement. Three colours only, red for the petals, dark green or black for stems and outlines, and a small cream or yellow centre in each flower. The petals are done with smooth satin fill, the stitch direction follows the curve of each petal so you get actual dimension rather than a flat stamp. 3 colour changes total which is easy on the machine and on your thread inventory.

I've stitched this on a set of linen tea towels and last christmas a customer ordered it for a full matching kitchen set, towels napkins aswell as a small runner. Looked like something from a proper homeware shop. Five sizes from 3.5 inches wide up to 7.5 by 3.79 inches at the biggest, stitch count going from 10,949 up to 22,269. Its a wide and low border shape, so its perfect for placing along hems, cuffs, pockets and towel edges.

Use a medium tearaway stabiliser on woven cotton or linen, it peels off cleanly and the border lays flat. Low-stretch fabrics work best because the horizontal design means any shifting pulls the alignment off. Cream linen, white cotton, sage green and natural muslin all work realy well with this one. The red pops against light neutrals without fighting for attention.

Skip busy florals or multi-colour prints, the whole point of a poppy border is that clean garden-fresh stripe across the fabric. Reach out if you want this border in a different colourway, Ive done dusty pink and muted olive versions for customers before and its an easy swap.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Linen tea towel hemsRun the full 7.5 inch border along the bottom hem of a linen tea towel for a kitchen textile that looks boutique.
  • Tablecloth or napkin bordersStitch it across the short edges of cotton napkins or a tablecloth border for a coordinated garden dining set.
  • Apron pocket or bib accentA mid-size border along the top of an apron pocket or bib front adds a pretty detail without overworking the piece.
  • Pillowcase edge decorationThe smaller sizes sit neatly along the fold edge of a pillowcase for subtle bedroom decor that washes and wears well.
  • Tote bag bottom borderPlaced along the bottom edge of a canvas tote bag it reads like a stamp along the base panel, clean and graphic.
  • Summer dress hem detailAlong a summer dress hem or sleeve cuff in red thread it adds a garden florals detail that looks hand-embroidered.
  • Garden party table linensStitched on cream cotton napkins for a garden party this border pulls the whole table setting together without extra work.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
