Heres the elegant rainbow dress lady and shes a fashion illustration come to life. Tall woman, hair up in a low bun, holding the sides of her gown out wide so the fabric fans into 7 streaming ribbons of pure colour. Body and hair sit in solid ink black silhouette, the dress does all the talking.
The rainbow streaks are stitched as long directional satin lines, no fill blocks, just streams of magenta, coral, mustard, emerald, teal, royal blue and deep purple flowing from the bodice down past her ankles. Seven colours total. Density is light at 484 stitches per square inch which keeps the fabric streaks readable and not stiff.
One customer ordered 5 of these for a salon owners boutique window display last month, the magenta ribbon held its tone gorgeous on cream linen panels. People keep buying it for pride month tees, valentines day gift hoops and bridal-shop merch, the colour spread covers a lot of occasions. I been digitising fashion silhouettes for years and this one really hits.
Best on light or medium fabric, the colour streams need a clean canvas to read. Cream, oatmeal, white, soft grey, pale blue. Looks magic on natural linen, the texture lifts the satin streaks beautifully. Skip black or navy fabric, you lose the silhouette into the cloth.
Stitch the colour ribbons slow, each one is a long satin column and machine speed eats their crispness, slow it down and trust the underlay. Run medium cutaway under woven cotton or linen, tearaway works on stiff canvas. Run rayon thread on the colour streaks for the high-sheen runway effect.
