The little elephant sits on the crescent moon with its legs dangling off the edge, wearing a long striped nightcap that flops down past its ear. One arm reaches up toward one of those outline stars floating around it, the other arm rests in its lap. The whole pose is casual and sleepy, like the elephant just climbed up there for a sit and forgot to come back down. Four open-stitch stars sit loosely around the moon, evenly spaced.

Six colours total but the palette is calm and deliberately low-contrast. Soft grey-blue for the elephant body, warm golden yellow for the crescent, teal for the star outlines, a tiny blush pink dot on each cheek. The nightcap stripe detail uses a directional fill in darker blue-grey, not satin, so the texture stays open and light rather than heavy. Total stitch count runs from 9k at the smallest size up to 22k on the largest, which makes it one of the lighter designs in this collection. Most machines wont even blink at it.

I designed this specifically for a customers nursery in march, she wanted something dreamy and gender-neutral that wasnt another fox or owl. The moon-and-stars framing was her idea, I just built the elephant into it. She stitched it on a white muslin swaddle for a newborn gift and sent me a photo. It looked exactly like the kind of thing youd buy in a boutique baby shop for twice the price. Customers keep coming back for this one for sleepy-theme nurseries.

Pair it with a tearaway stabiliser on woven cotton or muslin, the low density means you dont need anything heavy. Skip cutaway here unless youre stitching on jersey or minky, the open fill passes will feel stiff under heavy backing. Try it on pale grey jersey, white muslin or cream linen, any of those let the soft colour palette float. Avoid anything too dark or saturated because the light grey elephant and those star outlines will just sink into the ground.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
