Its a black cat sitting on a curling vine and this cat has got wings. Not small wings either, big detailed butterfly wings spread out behind the cat in a solid black silhouette with the veining cut out as negative space. The wing pattern is that classic monarch-style layout, upper wings larger with those oval window cutouts, lower wings rounded and full. The overall cat silhouette is sweet, sitting upright with a long curved tail resting on the branch, a small butterfly floating above its head.

The vine winds below and out to the sides with a bunch of simple hot pink four-petal flowers dotted along it. That magenta pink is the only colour break in the whole design, everything else is black. It gives the piece this pop of colour without it ever getting busy. I love how the wing cutouts mean you see the fabric through em, it gives a lacy quality when stitched on light fabric that you cant fully plan for until ya run it.

valentines day is one anchor for this one but honestly it sells more to fairy boutiques and girls bedroom decor shops. A customer wrote me asking to send me a photo after she stitched it on a white cotton pillow for her daughters bedroom, the wings looked almost like a real butterfly pressed behind glass. Just 4 sizes on this one ranging from 4.32 inches wide up to 7.19 inches wide, 19k to 33k stitches.

White, cream or pale pink fabric is what makes the negative-space wings sing. Try ivory linen, white cotton twill, pale blush canvas. Skip dark backgrounds here, the black silhouette disappears and ya lose all the wing detail. Use a light tearaway on plain woven cotton, switch to cutaway if ya need to hoop jersey or fleece. Pair with iron-on stabiliser backing on any thin or loose-weave fabric so the satin columns dont pull.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
