So this mermaid is done as a full filled silhouette, not an outline. She's got that classic arched-back pose, tail curving up on one side, hair fanning out behind her like its floating in water. The 5-colour build uses teal and deep navy in the lower half with directional satin stitches that actually follow the scale shapes, and then lavender and pale gold for the hair sections. Pretty dense fill at 581 stitches per square inch, which is what gives it that smooth solid look instead of the flat chalky appearance you get from rushed digitising.
I built this in Wilcom, so the underlay is properly mapped before the top fills land. Biggest size runs 5.84 inches wide and 8.01 inches tall at around 27177 stitches, smallest is 3.66 by 5.02 at 13494. Hoop a sturdy cutaway stabiliser, fabric face up, and if youre putting this on terry or any loopy texture lay water-soluble film over it so the satin sections dont sink into the pile. One customer last month stitched the large size on a teal linen tote and said the colour layering came out exactly as shown, no bleed between sections.
Best fabrics for this one are linen, canvas, denim, or a tight woven cotton. Skip anything too stretchy because the density will pull the hoop. Pick a thread with abit of sheen to it, a rayon or poly blend will make the directional fills catch the light the way a fish scale would. Dont use matte cotton in the lower silhouette specifically, it just looks flat.
Add it to kids room decor, beach bags, fantasy-themed gifts, or really any project where you want something that reads magical without being overly childish. And the silhouette style means it works on dark fabric aswell as light, since youre filling the whole shape rather than relying on a white background to read. Any questions after you download, holler and Ill get back to you same day.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
