This is one of those designs that looks simple from a distance and then you get close and realise how much work is in it. The feather is long and slender, drawn with individual barb lines fanning out from the shaft in that natural slightly asymmetric way a real feather sits. Its neither a cartoon feather nor a technical illustration, its somewhere in between, the kind of thing you'd find printed on high-end stationery or carved into jewellery. On linen or suede the texture of the fabric plays off the texture of the stitching in a way that makes it look almost woven in rather than added on top.

No sizes filed for this one but the tall narrow shape means it works best in a 4x4 or 5x7 hoop oriented vertically. Stitch count is light to moderate given its primarily line work with some fill in the barbs. One colour is often enough, though you can do a tonal two-colour version with a lighter shaft and darker barb lines for more depth. Tearaway on linen, suede, and canvas; cutaway on any stretch fabric. Medium hoop tension works fine, the linear nature of the barb lines is fairly forgiving.

Linen is where this really belongs, I made it with that in mind. A friend ran it on a natural linen table runner as a corner accent and it looked like something from a proper home decor brand. Also popular on suede journal covers, on the pocket of a chambray shirt, and as a hoop art piece in neutral thread on white fabric. The boho aesthetic crowd finds this very useful for layered arrangements too, where you'd stitch two or three feathers at different angles together on a larger piece.

Drop me a chat note if you need a mirrored version of the feather for a paired placement and Ill sort it out fast.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Linen table runner corner accentNatural linen table runners with a feather in each corner have a refined boho look that sits well in modern farmhouse interiors.
  • Suede journal coverSuede journal covers carry the fine barb detail beautifully, the thread texture reads almost like tooled leather work.
  • Chambray shirt chest pocketA chest pocket feather on a chambray shirt is the kind of small detail that makes the whole outfit look intentional.
  • Throw pillow side accentThrow pillow corners or side panels in neutral linen make a subtle addition that works with almost any room palette.
  • Wall hoop art neutral paletteSingle-feather hoop art in cream or taupe thread on white linen is a gallery-wall favourite for the boho aesthetic crowd.
  • Linen napkin cornerLinen napkin corners with a small feather placement lift a simple table setting without much effort.
  • Canvas tote side panelCanvas tote side panels with a tall vertical feather give the bag a quiet elegance that canvas doesnt always get credit for.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
