LOVE sits big and blocky across the bottom of the design, and a string of fairy lights winds through all four letters and drapes down at the sides, individual bulbs in red, yellow, and green hanging off the wire. L is golden yellow with a slight textured fill. O uses diagonal red and yellow stripes running across the whole face. V matches the O, same stripe direction, and E is solid green. Each letter has a chunky black outline that reads clearly from a distance even at the smaller sizes.

Right at the junction where V meets E, the gnome is perched, sitting like he owns the place. His hat is tall, red and white horizontal stripes, with a round red bauble on the tassel tip. Its almost entirely hidden, just a round nose peeking out below a big full grey beard that fans out wide over the letters. Two small arms reach down holding part of the light string, and thats kind of the whole personality right there, the nose and hat do all the work and the beard is basically the body.

Twelve colours, four sizes from 3.5 by 3 inches up to 6.5 by 5.6 inches, stitch range from 27,881 at the smallest to 57,014 on the full large. Thats a stitch-dense file so budget twenty to thirty minutes of machine time at the top size. Use a medium-weight cutaway underneath on any size past the small, the letter fills are dense enough to pull on a thin stabiliser. A customer ran the large on a cream canvas tote last December and said it came out clean first try, which is honestly what youre going for at 57k stitches.

Go with natural linen, cream canvas, or off-white cotton for the cleanest result. Pull a warm golden yellow thread for the L rather than a pale lemon, it can look muddy against cream if the shade is too close. Avoid fleece at the larger size, the tall hat stripes need a firm stable base to sit flat. Send me a note if the gnome beard fill pulls away from the letter outline and Ill find a thread substitute that holds the gap.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Gnome-themed Christmas pillow coversStitch the mid 5-in on a champagne linen cushion and pile it with two plain red or green covers for a gnome-themed sofa corner
  • Holiday tote bags for market shoppingRun the mid size on a sturdy carry tote and use it through December for carrying market finds and wrapped bottles
  • Kids seasonal sweatshirt chest panelPlace the 4-inch on the chest of a kids grey crewneck, pair it with gnome-print leggings for a whole outfit moment
  • Advent calendar fabric pocket panelsEmbroider each pocket of a fabric advent calendar with the small size and stuff em with chocolate or a daily note
  • Christmas quilt block centre motifUse it as the centrepiece block of a patchwork quilt throw, surrounded by solid green and red squares
  • Seasonal cafe or bakery apron decorationStitch across the bib of a canvas apron worn in a bakery or cafe that goes all-in on winter decorating every year
  • Gift pouch for handmade ornamentsRun the small on a muslin drawstring pouch, drop a handmade ornament inside, and use it instead of paper wrapping
  • Wall hoop art for a gnome-collector shelfHoop a square of natural linen, stitch the large, and display it propped on a shelf next to a gnome figurine collection

Behind every stitch

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
