Played with the idea of making a teacher apple feel less generic this time. The base is a horizontal yellow pencil body running across the bottom of the design, the kind with the rectangular barrel and the metal ferrule at the tip end. Sitting right on top of that pencil is a large round red apple, but the surface isnt plain red. Its covered in pink and mauve satin flower prints, 3 full blooms and some scattered petals, so the apple looks like its wearing a floral dress. Green leaf at the crown, small brown stem. To the left a yellow ruler stands upright. To the right a pair of teal scissors frames the edge. A red crayon tucks behind the apple at an angle. Eleven colours, density at 850 density which means is on the higher end, stitch range from 14,601 to 38,228 across the 5 sizes.
The floral detail on the apple surface is the part that takes the stitch count up. Each bloom is a layered satin petal set with a centre satin circle, stacked so the petals read as raised even on a flat fabric. The pencil body runs a wide horizontal tatami with the ferrule rings done in narrow satin bands. Scissors get a flat satin fill with directional shading to differentiate the two blades. All 11 colour stops are sequenced to minimise jumps across the hoop. Sizes go from 2.81 by 3.52 up to 5.98 by 7.52 inches.
This one gets alot of attention from the boutique-teacher-gift corner of the market. A customer emailed earlier this year asking about the floral apple after seeing it on a friend's tote, said she wanted the 5-inch for an end-of-year present. She went with it on a taupe linen tote and the pink flowers against the warm linen background looked really cohesive. The floral element is whats tips it from classroom novelty into something worth keeping, its got that extra detail that makes people pick it up and look closer.
Best on light neutral fabrics: cream canvas, natural linen, soft white cotton twill. The 11-colour palette needs a neutral ground so none of the colours fight each other. Avoid prints or busy backgrounds. Use a firm cutaway stabiliser and hoop tight, the high density at 850 means the fabric will try to compress inward on the bigger sizes if the hoop tension isnt solid. Add water-soluble topping on any textured fabric to keep the satin flower petals sitting clean on top of the surface.
