The split down the middle is what makes this design worth talking about. The butterfly divides exactly at the body, and each side uses a completely different style. The right wing is bold and solid, thick filled sections in a monarch butterfly panel pattern with clean white spaces between the veins. The left wing is the opposite, all fine scrolling line art, rose spirals, curved petals and feather-like leaves drawn in outline only. Thats the whole concept and it shouldnt work as well as it does.

Youre getting two aesthetics in one design, which is why it sits at a medium-plus price point. The contrast between the dense fill on one side and the airy outline work on the other is really the whole point. At 5 sizes from 3.12 to 6.68 inches wide, the floral line art on the left side becomes clearly readable at the 4-inch mark and above. Use a topping layer of water-soluble stabiliser on anything with texture like terry or fleece to stop the fine outline stitches sinking into the pile. Slide no-show mesh under cotton and hoop firm.

Stitch counts starting compact and topping out at 23,847 at the largest. The 46 trims in the small size and 52 in the large size reflect all those individual outline segments on the floral wing. Use a cutaway layer underneath and it sits flat without puckering, dont skip that step. I had a customer stitch the 5-inch size on a denim jacket last autumn and she said the bold wing side held beautifully against the fabric weight.

a piece that pulls double duty, it works as a fashion accent and as framed art in the same week without looking out of place in either setting.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Tote bag centrepiece for a fashion-forward customerThe asymmetric layout centres well on a tote front at the 4-5 inch size and draws attention without trying too hard.
  • Denim jacket back panel or shoulder yokeLight denim takes the bold fill side very cleanly; use medium cutaway and a steady hoop grip.
  • Summer dress or blouse left chest accentThe fine outline side is delicate enough for lightweight cotton blouse fabric with good stabiliser support.
  • Scarf or sarong edge detail at the cornerCorner placement on a scarf at the 3-inch size is subtle and reads beautifully close-up.
  • Framed botanical wall art in a 7-inch hoopThe design fills a 7-inch hoop neatly and mounts onto card inside without any backing frame needed.
  • Pillowcase or bed linen accent designCotton or linen pillowcases take both the fill and outline sections well with a firm tearaway underneath.
  • Card-making or scrapbook fabric insert pieceStitch onto a small cotton fabric panel, fuse to card backing, and it fits standard A5 card windows.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
