The iris is the thing that stops you. Its this deep dark blue, almost navy, with a teal ring around it and a tiny white reflection dot right at the centre. The pupil is black and the whole eyeball has a kind of glass quality because of how the concentric satin fills sit. Long brown lash columns spike out all around the eye, and the upper ones have pink highlights running through em like someone drew them with two pencils at once. Its genuinely one of those designs that doesnt read like embroidery until youre close.

Up at the corner of the eye a blue morpho butterfly has landed, wings open, showing off the electric blue with dark edge markings. On the inner corner side a cherry blossom sprig reaches across, pale pink buds and a couple of open flowers. Below the lower lashes theres a cluster of large magenta blooms and more pink cherry blossom heads. 11 colours and 79k stitches on the 7.5-inch, which makes it one of the densest designs Ive worked on.

I built this one with a tattoo studio customer in mind, a woman who sold embroidered tote bags at tattoo conventions last autumn. She wanted something on the edge of body art and fashion. She told me the response at her first convention table was mad, people kept stopping to ask where the design came from. Thats the kind of customer feedback that makes you realise you got the brief right.

Black fabric is where this lives. White fabric washes out the navy iris completely. Dark navy canvas, black denim, charcoal fleece jacket, black tote. Pop the 7.5-inch on a black cotton tee and it looks like a screen print from a distance. Use the 4.5-inch on a black canvas pouch for a fashion market stall item. Skip anything pale.

This needs a solid cutaway stabiliser, no question. The iris fill density is brutal at 79k total and the satin lash columns need stability or they lean. Run a density test on a scrap first. Add a water-soluble topping if youre stitching on velvet or thick fleece. Hoop dead-flat, the eye shape reads very differently if its even slightly off grain.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Tattoo convention tote bagsStitch the large size on a black canvas tote for a tattoo convention table and watch people stop to ask about it.
  • Black denim jacket back panelRun the 7.5-inch across the back of a black denim jacket for a fashion-forward statement back panel.
  • Fashion market stall canvas pouchesEmbroider the 4.5-inch on a black canvas zipper pouch and sell it at a fashion or alternative market stall.
  • Halloween costume accessoriesPop the medium size on a black felt bag or cape for a halloween costume accessory with a dark glamour feel.
  • Gothic or alternative apparelUse on a black or charcoal hoodie chest for alternative apparel customers who want something edgier than plain graphics.
  • Black tee chest panel designStitch centred on a black cotton tee chest and it reads almost like a vintage screen print at distance.
  • Festival market vendor merchandiseRun the smaller size on a black cotton tote for a festival market vendor selling alternative or witchy merchandise.
  • Witchy wall hoop artHoop the small version in a dark frame with black velvet backing for a moody wall art piece.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
