Last february a customer wrote me askin for a valentines heart that wasnt the standard fat red love heart, she wanted something for a wedding shower invitation panel. So I drew this floral heart frame, and theres now romance written all over it. The left half is built from a cluster of seven pink carnation blooms in light watercoloured pink, with green directional leaves filling in around the stems. The right half completely changes vibe, its just one brushy swooping pink calligraphy stroke that curves up and back down to close the heart shape.
That brush stroke on the right is the realy clever bit. It looks like someone painted the heart in one motion with a wet pink brush. The line tapers from heavy at the top to thin at the bottom, mimicking real watercolour pressure. And the open middle of the heart leaves room for a monogram, name or date underneath if youre layering in custom lettering. Its a kinda blank canvas inside the curve.
Its an 8 size design from 4.5 to 8.5 inches wide. Stitch range goes 20k to 42k, seven colours total mostly pink and green threads with abit of yellow on the carnation centres. Density logs around 766 so it sits medium-weight. The carnations sit as dense satin fill, while the brush stroke runs light directional fill so densities mix.
Stitch on cream linen, ivory cotton or pale blush quilting fabric. Skip dark backgrounds the watercolour pink will turn muddy and youll lose all the soft layering. Hoop with a medium cutaway stabiliser, the carnation cluster needs the support but the brushstroke side will pucker if you go too heavy.
Use rayon thread on the carnations for that subtle sheen, and centre your monogram lettering at least 0.5 inches inside the open heart space. Goes brilliantly on table runners. A nice paired engagement gift if you stitch two of em on cream cotton napkins. Hit the FAQ form if your software flags a stitch error.
