The compass sits open with the lid leaning back, the face showing a full eight-point wind rose with the degree ring around it. Wildflowers grow out from the base and up the sides of the case - small daisy-type blooms with thin stems and leaves trailing outward. A large butterfly with detailed patterned wings perches to the right, wings fully spread, its own wing veins drawn in fine lines. The whole thing is one colour, all black, no fill areas at all - pure blackwork line work the whole way through.
I like this style because it ages well. Single colour thread doesnt fade unevenly the way multi-colour pieces sometimes do, and the botanical-compass combination means it crosses into the travel lover market and the floral market at the same time. Stitch count runs from 12,030 at the smallest to 24,839 at the biggest, 5 hoop options total. Width goes 4.01 to 8.01 inches and the height is 3.49 to 6.97 inches - its landscape orientation, wider than tall. Density is 445 which is on the lighter side for blackwork, meaning the line work is fine not chunky.
A customer ordered this last year for a canvas tote as a leaving gift for a colleague who was moving abroad. She embroidered the name underneath in matching black thread and said it looked like a proper custom piece. That combination - compass plus personalised text below - is something I see alot now with travel gifts.
Hoop on a tearaway stabiliser for woven fabrics - the lighter density means you dont need heavy cutaway here. Use a 70/10 needle for fine lines on tightly woven fabric so the needle holes stay small. Skip busy patterned fabric because the detail gets lost. Back with poly tearaway and trim close. Message me if any questions come up.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Travel-themed tote bags and canvas carryallsThe blackwork line art reads clearly on natural canvas tote bags; pair with a personalised name for a gift tote.
- Denim or canvas jacket back panel decorationWorks on a denim jacket back at 8 inches; single colour means clean results with no colour-stop complexity.
- Hoop art for a travel lover or wanderer aestheticMount in a round 9-inch hoop for a finished wall piece; the landscape orientation suits a wide frame.
- Personalised leaving gift - stitch with name belowAdd a name or date in matching black thread below the compass for a personalised leaving or travel gift.
- Linen or cotton cushion covers for a study or officeStitch at mid-size on a cream linen cushion cover for a study or home office with a map-lover aesthetic.
- Mens or womens shirt chest pocket accentUse the 4-inch size as a chest pocket accent on a shirt or jacket - it fits neatly without dominating.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
