This ones the single-colour version and Im gonna be straight with ya, that constraint is the whole point. An open book, wide pages fanned out, with a pansy and wildflower spray climbing up from the spine. No colour fills, no block satin sections, just clean outline stitching all the way through. The linework is kinda delicate, flower petals traced with a fine contour line, leaf edges picked out individually, the page lines on the book done as parallel runs that actually look like ruled pages.

One colour, one thread swap, one stop. Thats it. Really really simple to run, great for anyone who doesnt want to fuss with colour changes mid-hoop. The stitch count is low too, just 6,366 stitches at 4 inch and 9,745 at 7 inch, so it stitches out fast on most home machines without breaking a sweat. Four sizes from 3.63 inch wide up to 7 inch wide.

I get messages from literary folk who want something clean and minimal, not the bright floral book designs that dominate search results. One customer ordered this last summer for bookmarks she was making as reader giveaways, stitching on cream cotton ribbon, and it looked genuinely like a printed illustration. I digitised this in the same spirit, which is why its pure outline and nothing else. Send me a message if you want the file in a specific format thats not in the download pack and ill check what I can do.

Use a tearaway stabiliser on stable woven fabric, cotton, twill, linen, canvas. The low density means it wont fight the fabric much, but you still need support under the hoop or the long running stitches drift. Avoid topping on this one, the fine line detail wants direct contact with the cloth surface. Pick a light-coloured fabric so the black line reads clearly, white or cream or oatmeal are all solid choices.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Literary tote bags for authors and readersStitch the 6-inch on a cream canvas tote for a literary event giveaway, the black outline reads like a stamped print from three feet away.
  • Bookmark fabric strips on cotton ribbonUse the 4-inch on cream or white cotton ribbon cut to bookmark size and add a tassel at the base for a handmade reader gift.
  • Minimalist book club member gift pouchesEmbroider the smallest size on a muslin zip pouch for a book club member, fill it with a tea sachet and a paperback and its a complete gift.
  • Monochrome reading journal coversRun the 7-inch across the front panel of a fabric journal cover on natural linen, no colour means it works with any journaling aesthetic.
  • Indie bookshop staff apron pocket detailPop the 4-inch on an apron chest pocket for an indie bookshop team member, subtle enough for daily wear and it looks intentional.
  • Wall hoop art in a home study or libraryMount the 7-inch in a round 8-inch hoop and hang it above a desk in a home study, the single black on cream is clean enough to work in any room.
  • Cotton handkerchief reader giftStitch on a white cotton handkerchief and fold it into a small gift box with a book recommendation card tucked inside.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
