Its just bats. Alot of bats. And somehow thats exactly the right call. The design is a swarm of black flying bat silhouettes arranged in a loose diagonal mass, thinner at the top-left corner, dense and packed toward the bottom-right. Every bat is slightly different in wing position so it doesnt look like a repeated stamp, it looks like an actual colony mid-flight. On a white or orange cotton background the negative space between the bats creates the movement.

One colour. Black. Thats it. No shading, no outline, no secondary fill. The whole design is pure silhouette and it works completely because of how the bats are spaced. Stitches run from 5,448 at the 2-inch wide size up to 15,036 at the largest 4.3-inch width. Low density at 466 stitches per square inch which means this sits comfortably on lighter fabrics and even works on knit without the usual structural complaints.

9 sizes. Use the smallest 2-inch on a sleeve, a pocket flap, or a sock cuff. Run the largest 4.3-inch on a tee chest. Ive had people tile 3 instances across a curtain panel and the diagonal masses create a genuinely nice repeating pattern. One customer last october used the small size on a whole set of white cotton napkins for a halloween dinner table, said the guests thought they were shop-bought.

Stitch this on white, cream, or orange cotton for best results. Tearaway stabiliser is fine at every size, the stitch count is low enough you dont need cutaway. Fast machine speed is no problem here, theres no complex fill sequence, just consistent silhouette fill from one corner to the other. Skip dense stabiliser on knit if youre doing the small sizes. Good beginner project or a quick halloween gift run.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • halloween tee shirt or long-sleeve topStitch the 4-inch on a white cotton long-sleeve for a halloween outfit that reads adult and minimal rather than costumey
  • trick-or-treat bag or cotton pouchRun the 3-inch on an orange cotton treat bag for a trick-or-treat night accessory that holds up to heavy use
  • halloween table runner or clothEmbroider the 3.5-inch three times diagonally across a white linen table runner for a halloween table that looks designed
  • spooky pillow or cushion coverUse the 4-inch on a cream or white linen cushion cover as a halloween swap-out seasonal piece that comes out each october
  • seasonal apron for october bakingPick the 2.5-inch for an apron chest or bib area for someone doing halloween baking who wants a quiet spooky accent
  • halloween curtain or window panelRepeat the 2-inch at different angles across a sheer curtain panel, the silhouettes show through fabric layers in a really nice way
  • denim jacket halloween season patchAdd the 3-inch to a denim jacket sleeve for a seasonal patch that looks good enough to keep year-round

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
