Eight colours, nine sizes, density of 80, this flying crane sits in the mid-density range which is exactly where you want a bird design with this much wingspan. Too dense and the white feather areas go stiff, too open and the black wingtip satin sections look thin. I digitised it in Wilcom with the crane plumage running in directional satin angles that follow the feather growth lines, so the wing looks structured rather than flat. At 3.5 inches its 1,052 stitches and runs in minutes; at 7.5 max inch size youre at 28,931 stitches. The wingspan at the large size really does fill a cushion panel or garment back in a way that looks completely intentional.

I had a customer order this one last march for a Japanese textile-inspired homeware collection she was putting together, cushion covers, table runners, a couple of small hoop pieces. She came back and ordered three more colourways because her initial pop-up run sold out. Pair poly-mesh under woven cotton, linen, or silk dupioni for the finest result. On softer or stretchier fabrics use a cutaway, the long satin wing spans can shift if the stabiliser doesnt have enough grip. Skip the topping on smooth surfaces, but on any textured fabric float a water-soluble layer over the top to protect the plumage fills from texture interference. Thats all it takes.

Stitch the 6.5 inch size on a table runner for a striking centrepiece look, the horizontal crane position reads cleanly across the runner width. Use the the 5-in run on a silk scarf or dupioni square as a framed hoop gift. Dont use a warm ivory for the crane's white sections, pick from the coolest white in your thread collection and the contrast with the red crown reads much sharper. Pair with a dark navy or forest green base fabric and both the bright bird coverage and the red accent pop forward strongly. Place on a linen cushion at the 6 inch size and wash on a gentle cycle; the 80 density holds well through washing without distortion.

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
