Pulled this one together around a pretty simple idea, big chunky mermaid tail on the left taking up most of the space, and a hand lettered 'Get off my tail' sweeping across the middle in a loose pink cursive. The lettering style is rounded brush script with those slightly uneven letter heights that make it read hand-done rather than computer generated. The tail itself has a teal and dark teal scale pattern with individual scale outlines, pink fin at the top, and a few hearts and little bubble dots scattered around. Its got a beachy sassy energy thats hard to miss.
3 colours total which means you swap thread twice at most. 5 sizes from 3.5 up to 7.2 inches wide. Stitch count goes from about 13k at the smallest up to 30k at the largest, density sits around 564, so its a solid mid-density design. The scale section and the letters are the densest parts.
My friend stitched this on a white canvas beach bag last summer and it got compliments every single time she took it out. Run a layer of cutaway stabiliser under before you hoop on any bag fabric, canvas and heavy cotton especially need that support under the scale fills. On a t-shirt you can go tearaway but use a medium weight one. Skip anything with a lot of texture or pile because the lettering stitches dont read clearly on rough surfaces.
The pink cursive uses satin column stitching through the letters so keep your thread tension even or you get gaps in the longer downstrokes. Works on white, cream, pale grey and light teal base fabrics. On navy or black it looks good with lighter teal thread for the scales and gold or white for the text. Dm me if you want a version without the text, its a different file but I can sort it.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Canvas beach bags and tote bagsStitch the 5 inch size on a white canvas tote or beach bag, the sassy text reads great from arm's length.
- Summer t-shirts and cropped topsUse the large size centred on a white or pale teal crop top for a beach day look.
- Beach towels and pool accessoriesStitch on a thick cotton beach towel panel, the scale detail holds well on terry with a good stabiliser.
- Kids room cushion coversPop the mid size on a plain cushion cover for a beach house or kids mermaid bedroom theme.
- Funny gift tees for mermaid fansMakes a funny birthday or beach trip gift when stitched on a plain white shirt for a mermaid fan.
- Hat panels and cap fronts in cotton twillTry the smaller 3.5 inch size on a structured cap front panel in cotton twill, sits well at that scale.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
