Sketched this cute whimsical ghost bursting out from a starburst shape because I wanted a spooky halloween ghost design that wasnt just the classic floating sheet. Smallest size is 3.5 inches wide. The ghost is the round lil blobby type, simple dot eyes, no scary features, and its sitting dead centre inside a jagged explosion of burst rays radiating outward like a comic book POW shape. Single colour, white on black is the obvious choice but this works in grey on cream too if you want something less contrasted.

3 sizes starting at 3.5 inches wide by 3.44 inches tall, going up to 5.5 inches wide and 5.4 inches tall at the largest. Stitch counts run 11,871 up to 19,723 stitches. Density at 664 means the ghost body fill is solid and the radiating spikes come out sharp without the whole thing looking too dense on thinner fabrics. I ran this in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio and put extra directional fill on the burst ray sections so the starburst reads as pointed spikes rather than a blurry edge.

Use a cutaway stabiliser on a black tank top or jersey, the 664 density and the overall stitch count need the stabiliser to keep the burst rays from rippling on stretch fabric. Stitch on black cotton, black jersey or black canvas. Ghost white thread is the go-to, but grey thread on oatmeal gives it a more vintage screen print feel. Skip dark navy or charcoal fabrics if youre using a grey thread since the contrast disappears.

People have been buying this one for halloween tank tops this season especially, the starburst shape sits wide on a chest and the ghost pops in the centre. Works on tote bags, hoodies, tees and canvas pouches too. Its compact enough at the 3.5-inch that you can use it on a pocket or sleeve as an accent rather than a main chest piece.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Black halloween tank top or crop topStitch the 5.5-inch on a black cotton tank top chest for a bold halloween graphic that reads well at distance.
  • Halloween tote bag front panelThe 5-inch size fills a black canvas tote front panel with ghost white thread glowing against the dark fabric.
  • Canvas zipper pouch or cosmetics bagRun the 3.5-inch on a canvas zipper pouch front for a fun halloween accessories bag or gift pouch.
  • Kids hoodie chest designUse the 4-inch mid size centred on a kids black hoodie chest for a cheerful not-scary halloween design.
  • Sleeve accent on a denim jacketThe 3.5-inch sits well as a sleeve placement on a denim jacket or cotton bomber for halloween season.
  • Halloween theme pillow or cushionStitch the 5-inch on a black linen pillow cover for a minimal halloween home decor accent.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
