Cute cartoon girl, 10 colours, pastel purple and pink -- my sister stitched this last Christmas on a birthday hoop for her daughters friend and Ive been getting requests for it ever since. Chibi-proportion girl standing straight, looking up with those big wide eyes, short lavender bob and a pink bow dress. Theres a tiny butterfly near her shoulder in the same soft pink palette. Ten colours total, which sounds like a lot, but most of the changes are between the skin tones, hair and dress shades and theyre all close together in the thread chart. Nine sizes from 2.31 to 4.95 inches wide, stitch counts 14,174 to 32,201.

Run a layer of cutaway stabiliser underneath when youre stitching on jersey or stretchy toddler fabric -- 10 colours means multiple start-stop points and the tension adds up if the base can shift. On stable woven cotton a light tearaway handles it fine. Use a 75/11 needle for light kids fabric, step to 80/12 if youre getting skipped stitches on the denser fill sections. Dont skip the topping on velboa or minky -- the fill needs a clear surface to sit on.

Pastel is the obvious palette but try a slightly more saturated lilac for the hair and dusty rose for the dress if you want something that reads a bit bolder. The butterfly is small enough to work in any accent colour -- same pink, or something contrasting like mint or gold. Stitch it on a kids cushion, a snap bib or a birthday card hoop and it lands every time. Its the sort of design that gets asked about when people see it in person.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
