Stitched out this gnome and christmas tree design for the first time last december and had to restock my test fabric three times because everyone in my household wanted it immediately. The tree is the big chunky element at the top, a rounded teal green shape with circular ornament dots in red and aqua and a big red bow tied at the very tip. The gnome sits tucked into the bottom of the tree, mostly hidden, just a black and white striped beard and tiny aqua feet poking out below the branches.

Seven colours including teal, sand, pink, aqua, red, white and black with 6 colour changes to manage. The density is high on this one, 1,257 dots per square centimetre average, and the stitch count goes from 19,299 at the smallest 2.2 inch wide size up to 44,366 at the full 7.5 inch version. Thats substantial so plan for it, the design needs proper backing on every fabric type.

My customers who do christmas markets love this design. One customer told me she used it on tea towels last november and sold out her entire stock in two days. Its that kind of instantly recognisable fun christmas image that people buy without overthinking it. I'd put the sweet spot size at the 4 to 5 inch range for most apparel, small enough to sit neatly on a chest but large enough to show the gnome detail clearly.

Five sizes from 2.2 inches wide up to 7.51 inches. Use cutaway stabiliser on everything, the density demands it including on firm woven fabrics. On very dense fleece I would add a water-soluble topping so the ornament circles and beard detail dont sink into the pile. Avoid stretchy single jersey without double-layer cutaway backing.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas market tea towelsOn white cotton tea towels the design stitches quickly and produces a product people buy at christmas markets without hesitation.
  • Kids holiday sweatshirtsCentred on a cream or white kids sweatshirt it makes a festive gift that works for the whole holiday season not just december 25.
  • Festive tote bagsOn a natural canvas tote the teal and red colour scheme stands out beautifully against the oatmeal background.
  • Christmas pillow casesA medium size stitched onto a white cotton pillow case makes bedroom christmas decor that kids genuinely love waking up to.
  • Holiday apronsOn the front of a denim or canvas apron the design makes holiday cooking attire that people keep and use every christmas.
  • Seasonal table runnersAlong the centre of a cream linen table runner the gnome peeks out from under the tree in a way that makes guests smile.
  • Gift pouches and drawstring bagsOn small drawstring cotton gift pouches the 2.2 inch version fits perfectly and turns simple packaging into a keepsake.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
