Two colours and nine sizes, but thats not what makes this worth buying, its the density of 185 and the way the fur directions were digitised in Wilcom. Most golden retriever designs Ive seen just use a flat fill across the face and call it done. But this design uses directional satin angles that follow the actual fur growth pattern you'd see on a real dog, so the cheeks angle slightly outward, the muzzle softens toward the nose, and the ear sections have their own separate directional pass. running 3.5 the stitch count is 2,025 which is clean and fast, but at the biggest 7.5 size youre looking at 67,227 stitches, thats a serious commit so plan the bobbin and thread ahead.

Ive had people order this for pet memorials, custom gifts for golden retriever owners, dog trainer uniforms, even a vet clinic apron set, last september a woman ordered fifteen copies for a groomer training programme. Alot of repeat buyers too. Use a cutaway stabiliser any time youre on a stretchy base, the dense fill at 185 needs a firm anchor or you risk the face distorting as the machine covers the whole portrait area. On a firm woven cotton or canvas a tearaway works, but cutaway is my personal call on this one regardless. Avoid using it on dark navy or black fabrics without a white underlay first, otherwise the warm golden tones look muddy.

Stitch the 5 inch size on a dog collar bandana for a clean custom look. And use the 6 inch version on a canvas tote for someone who loves their golden. Pick a bright cream bobbin thread to match the lightest fur tone and the back of the work stays clean. Run the stitching at slightly reduced speed if your machine struggles with directional changes in high-density portrait sections, it keeps thread tension even across the whole face composition. Place on a light grey or cream base fabric and the warm amber tones really come forward against the neutral ground.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Dog bandana golden retriever face embroideryDog bandana point at 4 inches, cutaway on the cotton twill fold, the density of 185 needs firm backing or the face area draws up around the nose.
  • Canvas tote pet lover custom designCanvas tote at 6 inches, tearaway on firm canvas, warm amber thread on natural or cream canvas, a lovely understated gift for a golden retriever owner.
  • Vet clinic uniform chest embroideryVet clinic or groomer uniform at 4.5 inches, cutaway on poly-cotton, the 185 density thread buildup absolutely needs firm backing.
  • Pet memorial keepsake cushion stitchPet memorial cushion at 5.5 inches, cream linen or cotton, cutaway, the fur directional fills read at their most detailed at this scale.
  • Denim jacket golden retriever portraitDenim jacket chest at 5 inches, two cutaway layers under the stiff weave, slow on the dense golden fill sections for even tension.
  • Dog trainer apron front design embroideryCanvas apron at 5 inches, an 80/12 needle handles the dense passes, the warm amber tones suit a natural apron fabric perfectly.
  • Cotton pouch dog lover gift stitchCanvas zip pouch gift at 3.5 inches, tearaway, runs at just 2025 stitches, the smallest version is still a clean recognisable portrait.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
