Butterfly wings fully filled in solid black with a large rose sitting right where the body should be, the petals radiating outward and framed by the wings on both sides. Long curling vine tendrils extend from the lower wings like roots or ribbons and there are small leaves scattered along them. The wings themselves have alot of decorative detail built into the satin fills, not just a flat black block. White negative space between elements gives the design its shape. Its very gothic, very bold, the kind of design that reads from across the room even at 4 inches.

I mapped this in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio so the density on this one is 1057, which is genuinely high. The 5.19-inch size lands at 30,161 stitches and the small 3.3-inch size still runs 18,176. There are 3 sizes total. You really need a firm cutaway stabiliser with this, no question, and I'd recommend hooping the stabiliser separately and then floating your fabric on top if you're putting it on delicate fabric. The density means every millimetre of movement shows up in the fill. Slow the machine speed down about 20 percent for the best result on the butterfly wings.

My niece hooped this last february on a black velvet jacket back for a goth night event and she said it looked incredible once the black on black contrast settled in under the lights. On black velvet the stitching catches the light differently so the rose and vine detail reads in a kind of dimensional way. Use a water-soluble topping on velvet so the stitches dont sink, its the same setup you'd use for any dense design on pile fabric. Honestly the velvet idea was suprising to me too but it works.

Stitch on white cotton canvas or cream linen for maximum contrast. Pop onto black denim for that gothic white-on-black look using ivory or cream thread. Works on dark canvas bags and navy cotton jackets. Try the small 3.3-inch version on a cotton pouch for a compact but bold accent.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
