Reach out to your halloween-loving crowd with this design because its exactly the right flavour of dark without going full horror. The butterfly sits face-on, wings spread, and the upper wing panels each carry a skull face worked right into the wing shape itself. Youll see the eye socket voids and the jaw outline where the veining would normally run. Thats what makes it read as gothic art rather than a cheap gimmick, the skull is part of the wing anatomy not just slapped on top.

Five sizes from 0.98 inches wide up to 2.91 inches, so its genuinly sized for detail work, jacket lapels, hat brims, collar edges, bag straps. Stitch counts run from 2,808 to 10,408 in a single black thread with 16 trims handling the wing voids and eye socket gaps. I stitched the tiny 1-inch size on black felt last october for a batch of halloween market patches and the skull detail held up sharp enough that people kept asking if Id cut the voids by hand. One customer ordered forty of them for a costume workshop and said they sold out before she even finished setting up her table.

Pop tearaway behind woven cotton or canvas. On jacket collars or hat brims, stick self-adhesive cutaway to the item back and float it under the needle rather than hooping through layers. Grab a 65/9 needle for the tight stitch turns inside the skull cutouts and youll avoid thread breaks on those short runs. Reach out through the shop if any of those skull void cutouts fill in unexpectedly and Ill check your machine settings with you.

Where buyers actually put this design:

  • Halloween costume jackets and capes with skull butterfly rows along the hem
  • Gothic wedding accessories, garter belts, bridal sashes, bouquet wraps
  • Hat brims and beanies for a subtle dark accent in everyday wear
  • Collar and lapel patches that can be removed and reused
  • Tote bags for gothic markets and craft fairs as a signature motif
  • Phone case fabric covers and zip pouch accents

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Halloween costume jackets and capesA row of skull butterflies along a cape hem at the 2-inch size reads as intentional gothic detail not random decoration
  • Gothic wedding accessoriesGothic brides use this on garter belts and bouquet ribbon wraps to add edge without breaking the formal look
  • Hat brims and beaniesThe 0.98-inch tiny sits perfectly on a beanie fold or cap brim where space is tight
  • Collar and lapel removable patchesStitched onto felt backing the design makes a clean lapel pin or brooch patch
  • Tote bags for gothic marketsCraft fair vendors selling gothic goods use this as a shop signature on fabric hang tags and totes
  • Phone case fabric covers and zip pouchesSingle small skull butterfly on a zip pull tab or wristlet strap is just the right amount of detail
  • Pillow covers for dark aesthetic bedroomsBlack on black velvet with a slight sheen difference between fabric and thread gives a luxury dark bedroom look

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
