Took a completely different direction from my cartoon dolphin designs with this one -- no round proportions, no accessories. Just a sleek arching leap with clean flowing lines. The body is in bright sky blue, shaded with darker navy along the back and fin edges, white belly highlight strip, bold black outline. It reads more like an illustration than a character -- the kind of thing you'd expect to see in a coastal home goods shop or on a sailing jacket, not a kids toy store.
I had someone order this last spring for a set of personalised beach towels for a sea-themed cottage -- she wanted something that looked nice on adult towels, not just kids items. Thats really what separates the graceful dolphin designs from the cute ones -- adults will wear this too. At 4 colours and 4 colour changes its a straightforward project, no complicated sequence. Stitch count goes from around 5,368 at 2 inches up to 22,699 at the full 6 inch size. The flow of the arc means the design looks good even at smaller sizes because the line doesnt lose definition.
Use medium tearaway on cotton and light canvas. Try the 4 inch version on a beach bag or towel border -- it sits nicely in a row of repeating motifs if youre doing a decorative band. Skip very dark navy fabric, the navy shading disappears against a dark background and you lose the depth. Zip lands in your inbox as soon as payment clears.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Beach towels and bath sets for adults -- clean enough for grown-up tasteThe flowing arc works on adult beach towels without looking too childish.
- Coastal home decor items like cushions, placemats, or table runnersOn off-white linen cushions the navy shading gives it a sophisticated coastal feel.
- Sailing and outdoor clothing -- jackets, caps, beach coverupsThe sleek outline works well on heavier outdoor fabrics used for sailing jackets.
- Framed hoop art for a nautical or coastal living roomIn a long rectangular hoop frame it reads like proper coastal illustration art.
- Personalised gifts for sea and ocean enthusiastsThe clean design reads well on natural linen gift wrapping or gift bags.
- Repeat border motif on towel edges or curtain hemsA row of 3 or 4 at the 2 inch size along a towel border looks like a custom commission.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
