This green owl is round and kind of chunky, the way owls look in a childrens picture book. Big amber eyes with a sharp black pupil, a stubby little ochre beak, and all that green plumage stacked up in layers. The body feathers are done with directional stitching so each row curves slightly differently, giving it real depth rather than a flat blob of colour.

8 colours total: sage green, lime, warm white, ochre, amber, black, soft brown and a rust accent on the wing edges. Thats alot of thread swaps but the result is worth it. Each colour section is clearly separated so its not confusing once youre actually at the machine.

I get messages from people doing nursery projects with this one alot. My niece had it stitched on a little cream cotton pillow for her daughters room last christmas and it looked realy sweet. Also works great on tote bags for people who just love owls, there are more of them than you think.

5 sizes from 3.49 inches up to 7.48 inches wide. The full 7.48 inch version fills a standard 5x7 hoop nicely. Stitch count hits around 48,610 at the largest so use a good cutaway stabiliser, the density at 908 means this needs solid backing or youll get tunneling.

Best results on plain cotton twill, canvas or denim. Skip dark navy or forest green base fabrics since the sage and lime threads wont read well against them. And pick a light cream or white background to let those 8 colours pop properly. Hit me up if theres any issue on the file and Ill fix it fast.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Nursery room cushion coversStitch the 5 inch version centred on a cream cotton pillow cover for a woodland nursery that feels handmade and personal.
  • Kids bedroom wall art hoopsPop the design into a 5x7 hoop on plain cotton and hang it as framed wall art in a kids room, no frame needed.
  • Tote bag for owl loversA canvas tote with this owl on the front is the kind of bag an owl-obsessed teacher or librarian carries every single day.
  • Woodland baby shower giftsUse the smaller 3.49 inch version on a muslin swaddle corner for a baby shower gift that stands out from the usual options.
  • Cotton children's tshirt chestThe 4 inch size sits cleanly on the chest of a plain white or cream childrens tshirt for a birthday outfit that doesnt need a print.
  • Autumn themed table runner accentAdd the owl near the edge of a linen table runner as an autumn accent piece, it fits the warm earthy palette of the season.
  • Fabric book cover for kidsStitch it onto a cotton fabric book cover for a kids chapter book gift, small owl sits on the spine or front panel.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
