Black cats are alright but a black cat in a witch hat is another thing entirely. This design came together last summer when I was building up a halloween collection and wanted a character piece that would work on both kids and adult items without being gory or complicated. Eight colours, 16,425 stitches, 3.5 by 3.38 inches. Its properly square-ish so it centres well on just about everything.

The density is 215 which is on the lighter side for a character this detailed, I made that choice deliberately because alot of black fill designs end up stiff and board-like after washing, especially on softer fabrics. At 215 the cat body has some flexibility and the fill stitching moves with the fabric rather than against it. The eye detail uses satin with its own underlay angle so the amber irises sit on top of the black fill cleanly rather than getting buried. Digitised in Wilcom, colour sequence starts with the darkest fill and works outward to the lighter accent colours.

Medium-weight cutaway is what I use for this one, sixteen thousand stitches on a near-square needs decent support, but the lower density means a medium-grade cutaway is plenty. Use a stretch variant on knit and youll find the cat sits really flat without any puckering around the fill edges. Stitch this on dark fabric if you can, black on black with a slight sheen difference looks genuinely interesting, and on deep orange cotton the contrast is brilliant. Skip pale or cream backgrounds unless youre going for a specific effect, because dark charcoal on a light base wont read the way its meant to. Trim cutaway close after stitching so the backing doesnt show on totes or pillowcases where the wrong side is visible.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
