A row of carved pumpkin faces, each one with a different expression. Thats the whole design, no background, no extra elements, just the faces lined up at 3.5 inches wide and 0.91 inches tall. I get messages from customers every year asking for a design they can repeat along a hem or a runner edge without it feeling heavy, and this is what I point them to. It works as a border strip, a hat band, a hem accent, or a repeated element stitched across the edge of a table runner or place mat.

The density at 446 is the highest of any halloween design Ive made this season, the pumpkin satin fill is genuinely dense and the coverage is full. That means you definitely need a firm stabiliser, medium to heavy cutaway, and you should run a water-soluble topping film over the orange sections if youre stitching on any textured fabric at all. Without topping film on a nubby or fleece surface the satin loops can catch on the texture and youll get an uneven look. On smooth cotton or twill youre fine without it. Stitch the orange pumpkin fills before the black carved features, the Wilcom sequencing already does this. Use a slow stitching speed for the dense satin sections, 446 density pushes hard on the fabric and slower is better here. Check bobbin tension before you start.

Five colour stops with orange dominating. Place it near the lower hem of an autumn project for the best visual effect, the compact height reads as a decorative band rather than a focal piece, which actually makes it more versatile. Repeat it every 5 inches for a continuous border or stitch it once centred as a standalone accent. Dense satin at this level holds its shape well after washing when stitched on a firm cutaway backing.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Apron lower hem border stripCotton apron, heavy cutaway stabiliser, stitch 1 inch above lower hem, 446 density needs firm backing, use topping film on textured apron fabric.
  • Halloween cap bill band rowStructured cap, cutaway with cap frame, the 0.91 inch height fits cap bill band, 3.5 inch span covers most standard panel widths.
  • Table runner repeated border accentLinen or cotton runner, cutaway stabiliser, repeat every 6-8 inches for a continuous border pattern across the full runner length.
  • Halloween pillowcase hem embroideryCotton pillowcase, cutaway stabiliser, stitch 1.5 inches above lower hem, repeat twice for a double band effect on a wide pillowcase.
  • Kids costume shirt bottom hemKids cotton shirt, cutaway, place across the shirt hem 1 inch above seam, the low height adds detail without dominating the garment.
  • Tote bag base panel stripCanvas tote, cutaway for durability, stitch horizontally 1.5 inches above the base seam as a decorative footer strip across the bag face.
  • Seasonal place mat edge accentCotton place mat, heavy cutaway, stitch 1 inch from the right or left short edge, pairs well with a plain linen or orange base cloth.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
