Last september I had a customer who makes kids halloween costumes write me asking for a pumpkin that wasn't, her words, 'boring orange'. So I built this one, same classic carved pumpkin shape with the triangle eyes and the gappy grin, but the ribs run through the whole rainbow instead of a single colour. Its kinda like what would happen if a pumpkin went through a prism. Seven colours, so there are quite a few thread changes, but the stop order goes logically from the bottom ribs upward so it doesnt feel chaotic.
6,396 stitches with a density of 91, which is actually really really light for a design this detailed, that low density is intentional, it keeps the colour bands from blending into each other and lets the fabric texture show through a bit, which I think gives it a handmade quilt-like quality. Size is 3.5 inches wide by 3.11 inches tall, so its basically square, and that puts it in the right range for a centred chest or a large patch. Digitised in Wilcom. Avoid placing on very textured terry or loose knit without a topping film, the open density needs the surface flat to read properly. Use cutaway on knit, tearaway on woven cotton works fine.
