This is one of the most involved halloween designs Ive put out. Thirteen thread colours, 41,658 stitches, and a full scene, haunted rooftops, bare trees, bats in the sky, a big orange moon. The density across the design averages 224 but peaks in the dark silhouette areas, so you really need a proper cutaway stabiliser and a stable fabric base. I built this in Wilcom with deliberate layering, background fills first, then the town outlines, then the detail work on top. Dont rush the colour changes on this one.

Pick a pale fabric if you want the full palette to show, the 13 colours include deep blacks and purples that will blend into dark backgrounds and you'll lose the layered depth completely. Natural linen, ivory cotton, or even pale grey fleece all work well. Use a 90/14 needle for the dense fill passes and switch to 75/11 for the finer tree-branch lines and bat details. The hooped area is 5.24 by 5.5 inches so make sure your hoop can accommodate that before you start, its a large project by any measure.

One customer ordered this last october for a halloween quilt square, she said the layering in the sky section looked like it was actually receding into the distance the way the colours were graded. Thats exactly what the directional underlay was doing, each row slightly shifts angle so the fills dont look flat. So if you're planning to frame or mount the finished piece, it honestly works well as standalone fabric art aswell.

Stitch it on a sweatshirt back, a tote, a quilting panel, or a large pillow. Add water-soluble topping if your fabric has any pile or texture. Text me if the colour sequence doesnt match what you're seeing in your software and I'll walk you through it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Large halloween throw pillow frontFramed wall hoop on cream linen for a home with a dedicated halloween display shelf that stays up all October.
  • Quilting panel seasonal art squareQuilting panel for a halloween lap quilt, one customer said the sky section looks like it recedes into the distance.

  • Trick-or-treat bag statement pieceLarge trick-or-treat canvas bag for an older kid who wants something that reads as more sophisticated than a cartoon pumpkin.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
