Witch silhouette with bats and autumn leaves drifting around her, made after realising most halloween witch designs either go too cute or too complicated. This one sits in the middle. The witch is rendered as a confident silhouette in deep purple, tall pointed hat with a wide brim, cape flowing out to one side, arms raised slightly. Shes not a cartoon and shes not realistic, shes that classic halloween symbol you recognise immediately. Around her, 3 bats in solid black spiral outward at different angles. Then autumn leaves in rust, amber, and burnt brown scatter across the lower half of the composition, bridging the spooky and the seasonal.

8 colours altogether but the palette is naturally weighted toward dark tones so the colour changes feel manageable. Stitch density lands near 899 per square inch, solid but not extreme for this kind of detailed scenic piece. Wilcom EmbroideryStudio handled the directional fills on the witch cape really well, the stitching direction follows the fabric drape of the cloak so there isnt that flat-patch look you sometimes get on figure pieces. Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser and hoop firmly.

9 sizes, widths going from 3.5 up to 7.51 inches, heights from 3.23 to 6.96. A customer told me she wanted the 5.5-inch version for a halloween tote she was making for her mum, and she asked whether the bats would look too small at that scale. They dont, I had her run a test on black canvas and the bats came out clear and defined. At 16,535 stitches on the small end the run time is fast enough to batch alot of pieces in one session.

So this reads best on black, deep charcoal or dark navy fabric where the deep purple of the witch body has just enough contrast without fighting the bats. On white or pale fabric the composition loses its atmosphere and looks more like a practice piece than a finished design. Try it on a halloween tote, a sweatshirt front, or a trick-or-treat bag in black canvas. Avoid stretchy knit for the large size, 47k stitches on jersey needs extra stabiliser prep aswell.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • halloween tote bag or trick-or-treat bag front panelStitch the 5-inch version on a black canvas tote for a halloween bag that works as a purse or market bag through all of october
  • womens halloween sweatshirt or hoodie chest designRun the 6-inch size on a womens charcoal sweatshirt chest, the deep purple reads against charcoal better than against pure black
  • seasonal throw pillow or cushion cover embroideryHoop the 4-inch version on a linen pillow cover for a seasonal cushion that transitions from halloween into november without looking out of place
  • black canvas apron for halloween baking or craft fairEmbroider the 5.5-inch size on a black canvas apron bib for a halloween market stall or baking session, bats and leaves fill the space well at that width
  • halloween wall hoop art framed in dark wood or black ringFrame the 7-inch version in a black embroidery ring on cream cotton canvas and hang it as wall art, the purple-on-cream gives a vintage halloween poster feel
  • kids halloween costume jacket or zip-up back panelPut the 4.5-inch size on a kids denim jacket back panel and the atmospheric composition reads as costume-ready without being childish
  • autumn wreath sash or decorative fabric bannerSew the medium version onto a burlap sash for a autumn wreath and the rust leaf tones tie into any natural fall colour scheme

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
