A black cat sits on a stretched spider web in the lower left corner, three bats flying across the upper area, a tiny carved jack-o-lantern grinning with eyes down to the right, plus a spider hanging from a single thread off the bottom. Everything in solid black silhouette.
Black thread only, theres no colour changes to manage. The 3.51 inch smallest hoops at 9,467 stitches and the 7.51 inch largest lands at 22,585 with density at a moderate 474. Most of the count comes from solid pumpkin border and witch silhouette, both tatami fill. Cat web bat and tiny carved face details run as thinner satin columns. Ive digitised it in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio with anchor stitches under the heavy borders so its gonna stay flat and not pull fabric into a dome shape.
A customer wrote me back in september, shed stitched the 6-inch size on a cream cotton placemat set for her halloween dinner party, four placemats total, used heavyweight cutaway and lightweight tearaway over top. Said the silhouette came out crisp like papercut decor. Her brother kept asking if she had bought them from somewhere fancy, suprised him completely when she said theyre handmade.
Best stitched on cream, oat, white, light grey or natural canvas ground where it pops. Skip dark or busy print fabrics, papercut needs negative space to breathe. Run heavyweight cutaway under the solid border fill. Drop tearaway above the fabric on woven cotton to keep edges clean. Hoop the 3.51 inch smallest in a 4x4 frame, the largest 7.51 inch fits inside 5x7 or 6x10 for cushion covers, table runners, totes and banners. Pick the medium 5-inch for placemats or napkin centres. Pair with smaller bat or witch motifs for a coordinated set.
