Back in september a customer ordered a bunch of halloween text designs and this was one of three she came back for again the following year, which told me it was working. Its a lil compact piece, 3.51 x 2.53 inches, with 'Happy Halloween' in bold wobbly informal lettering and three cartoon bat silhouettes arranged around it. One colour. Done. Simple as that, which is actually the whole point.

With 5,663 stitches and a density of 99 Wilcom kept this quite light on purpose, so the fill stays readable and doesnt bunch on lighter fabrics. The satin on each letterform uses directional underlay which is already dialled in, so ya really dont need to fuss with settings. Use medium-weight cutaway stabiliser on stretchy or knit fabrics and tear-away on woven cotton. Stick with a 75/11 needle and match your bobbin colour to your thread for the cleanest back.

So the real lil trick with a single-colour design like this is picking the thread colour thoughtfully. Black on orange is the obvious choice and it looks great on tote bags and tees. But Ive seen customers stitch this in white on deep purple fleece and it looks really really good too, the bats pop and the lettering stays crisp. Avoid mid-tone fabrics where your thread colour gets lost; high contrast is what makes single-colour work.

Add a topping over fleece or terry cloth or the lettering serifs will sink into the pile. Drop me a message through the shop contact if the file causes any issues and Ill get it sorted.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Left chest kids halloween t-shirtKids halloween t-shirt left chest, the compact text-and-bats composition suits a child chest without overwhelming the front panel.
  • Halloween canvas tote bagCanvas trick-or-treat bag front where classic black on orange canvas is the obvious thread choice and it works exactly as expected.
  • Trick or treat bag frontCotton pillowcase, white cotton base with black thread lets the lettering sit quietly until someone gets close enough to read the bats.
  • Halloween pillowcase accentKitchen tea towel for a halloween baking day, single colour on most towel shades without any topping, tearaway is all thats needed.
  • Spooky kitchen towel embroideryBeach blanket corner accent for an october outdoor event, the low density keeps the towel fabric supple even in salt air and sun.
  • Seasonal sweatshirt chest designSweatshirt left chest, add topping on fleece or the bat silhouette tips will sink into the pile and lose their pointed ear definition.
  • Halloween party favour bagFavour bag production run, single colour means no thread changes across however many bags you need, just run them straight through.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
