I digitised this one back in february after getting alot of requests for a highland cow with real coat texture. Thirteen colours sounds like a lot but each one does actual work, the fringe alone takes four thread changes to get that shaggy, layered look right. At the top 7.5 size you're looking at 63,478 stitches and a density of 175, which means its meant for stable woven fabrics, not knits. Heres the thing though: run a cutaway stabiliser underneath and this thing holds up wash after wash.

Nine sizes from 3.5 scaling to 7.5 inches wide means youll find a fit for basically anything. Use a directional underlay so the satin columns on the face sit flat and dont push the fabric around when youre hooped up. I spent a bit of time on the fringe specifically, the topping stitches are tight enough to hold the loops down but loose enough to read as actual hair texture once stitched. Stitch a test piece on scrap first if you havent done heavy satin fringe before. And the horns come out clean on any colour background, which surprised me the first time I stitched a test on dark denim.

I get messages asking if the coat colour can be swapped and yeah, absolutely. Pick your own thread palette, the colour blocking is clear enough that substituting is straightforward, even if you want to go a bit wild with it. Avoid very light beige thread on white fabric though, the fringe gets lost. Digitised in Wilcom, exported in all 8 formats so it works with your machine regardless. Holler if you hit any snag loading the file and Ill sort it for you.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Left chest placement on flannel shirtFlannel shirt left chest at 3-in. The compact fringe detail still reads against the woven texture with medium cutaway behind.
  • Large back panel on denim jacketDenim jacket back panel at the full size, topping over the fringe area makes the shaggy coat read smoother once stitched out.
  • Center front farmhouse tote bagCotton canvas tote front at 5 to 6 inches, the earth-tone palette suits the natural fabric without needing a light or dark background.
  • Throw pillow cover for rustic decorThrow pillow cover in linen or cotton twill at the larger sizes, the caramel and cream tones coordinate with most farmhouse interiors.
  • Barn-themed nursery wall hoop artBarn-themed nursery wall hoop at 4 inches backed with felt, hang directly and the thirteen colours read warmly on a nursery wall.
  • Apron bib front for farm kitchenApron bib front for a farm kitchen at 5 inches, cutaway holds through repeated washing better than most non-farm designs I run.
  • Zip pouch front panel gift itemZip pouch front panel gift item at the small size, tearaway on canvas and the coat detail stays readable even at compact scale.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
