I get questions about this bee more than almost anything else in my catalogue. The density on this one is 103, which is genuinely high, at the top 7.5-inch size youre looking at 37,452 stitches, and every one of those is doing work on the abdominal stripe detail. The satin runs directional across each stripe segment, which is what gives it that almost photographic quality at scale. Run this on a medium to heavyweight fabric, not something delicate, the density will pull on a thin quilting cotton if you dont back it properly.

Only 3 colours, yellow-gold, black, and a pale wing tone, but the layering makes it look like more. Wilcom handled the digitising, and the underlay sequencing on this was genuinely complex, I wont pretend otherwise. The wing sections use a light fill underlay first to stabilise the topping layer, then the vein lines run over the top. Use knit-friendly cutaway on anything youre stitching this onto, full stop. The stitch count at the larger sizes is too heavy for tearaway. Skip tearaway on any size above 5 inches with this design, the stripe tension alone will split it mid-hoop.

Nine sizes from 3.5 through to 7.5 inches wide. The smallest size drops to 1,089 stitches, thats the one that works on patches or smaller goods. Check your bobbin tension before you start on the main fabric, because a pull on the yellow-gold stripes will show on the back immediately. One customer ordered it last april for a framed piece at 7 inches on linen, and she sent me message saying it was the most detailed bee shes ever stitched. That made my day, to be honest.

Email me if youre having trouble with the file, the format, or if something looks off after you load it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Framed embroidery hoop wall artFramed linen hoop at the full size, the customer who ordered for this said the wing veins looked like a museum print.
  • Denim jacket back patch detailDenim jacket back patch where the three colours hold an almost photographic quality against the dark indigo.
  • Canvas tote bag centrepieceGardening apron bib focal point, the compact bee silhouette works as a statement without covering the whole front.
  • Gardening apron bib focal pointHat crown front at the small size, 1,089 stitches runs fast on a structured cap and the silhouette reads as a logo.
  • Embroidered patch on canvasCanvas patch base at mid-size, cutaway then trim and iron-on film for a clean finished edge on a custom patch.
  • Linen cushion cover front panelStructured hat front panel where the wing vein detail earns the density even at the smaller sizes.
  • Structured hat front panelLinen cushion cover front where the satin stripes catch light differently from each side of the room, which is genuinely satisfying.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
