At 25,141 stitches on the largest 7.5-inch size, theres a lot happening in this design. The sunflower head is full tatami fill with directional petals radiating outward, each petal its own run of gold and amber thread, and the centre is a dense rust-brown satin cluster with tiny scattered seed marks in dark charcoal. Then the stem and leaves flip completely to outline only, kinda like a botanical illustration sitting underneath a fully rendered bloom. That contrast is deliberate and it works realy well on lighter fabrics.

The text is two styles handled separately. Arching over the top in chunky hand-lettered caps: "Stand close to people who feel like" and then the word "Sunshine" anchors the whole thing at the bottom in a big flowing satin-stroke cursive with a little underline swash. The lettering alone accounts for a good chunk of that 11,341 minimum stitch count on the 3.5-inch version, because the satin columns on "Sunshine" are pretty dense even at small sizes. Its the kind of quote that people actually stop and read.

go with a no-show cutaway under stretch tees fabrics and the density keeps everything flat and crisp after washing. On stable wovens like denim, canvas, or linen you can go tearaway and get a very clean back. I hooped a 5-inch version on a natural linen tote last week and the charcoal lettering against the cream colour of the fabric looked really sharp. No topping needed on smooth tight-weave cotton but do use it on terry or fleece or you'll lose the lettering definition in the pile.

A crafter I know ordered this for her whole spring tee lineup and messaged me saying her customers kept asking where the "Sunshine shirt" came from. Dont underestimate how much the contrast between a fully stitched sunflower head and those outline-only leaves below contributes to the overall feel. Pair it centre-chest on a fitted cotton tee or place it on the front panel of a canvas tote for max readability on that big cursive word. Add a lightweight bobbin thread in cream or white so the underside doesnt show through on thinner fabrics. Hoop snug, especially if you're running the 6-inch or 7.5-inch size, because the outline stem section needs zero drift or the join between the fill bloom and the outline leaves will gap.

One last thing worth knowing: the radiant dash marks around the bloom are their own separate run of satin stitches, so they do add a bit to the total stitch count at the larger sizes. Skip em if you want a cleaner silhouette and just run the bloom and lettering portions alone, though honestly the rays are what give it that warm sunburst energy. Try a medium weight tearaway on the back for those rays on denim or canvas, keeps the whole composition from puckering under all those directional fills.

Message me anytime if a colour sequence looks off.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Fitted cotton tee, centre-chest placementHonestly my favourite spot for this one, the cursive 'Sunshine' reads perfectly at arm's length on a medium tee.
  • Natural linen tote bag front panelNeeds a cutaway stabiliser on the bloom section, but linen shows off the outline stem work beautifully.
  • Denim jacket back yokeUse a tearaway underlay and the charcoal lettering pops against indigo denim with almost no extra prep.
  • Canvas apron bibThe 5-inch size fits the bib area without crowding, and canvas handles the stitch density no problem.
  • Fleece pullover hood panelGo with a cutaway underlay on fleece and add topping so the lettering doesnt sink into the pile.
  • Baby shower gift onesieStitch the 3.5-inch version centered on the chest panel, its small enough to stay soft against baby skin.
  • Friendship gift throw pillowPop the 7.5-inch on a cream cotton cover and the rust-brown centre colour ties in with natural home tones.
  • Craft fair tee lineupA bunch of craft-fair sellers have used this for spring markets, the quote drives repeat questions from customers.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
