Its a jellyfish but not the way you'd expect. The bell up top is all dark charcoal and inky grey, done with tight cross-hatch stitching that gives it this almost stormy, textured look. Then hanging below are the tentacles and they're not tentacles at all, they're clusters of soft pink blossoms. Five-petal flowers in blush and dusty rose, scattered and overlapping, trailing down like a bouquet caught in a current. Genuinely unusual pairing and it works realy well.

The sketchy density on the bell keeps stitch count manageable, ranging from about 13k on the 3.5-inch size up to 28k at top 7.5 size. Thats actually quite light for this size range, which means it stitches fast and sits flat on most fabrics without heavy stabilising. The flower sections use proper satin columns for the petals, so they catch the light and look dimensional even at the smaller sizes.

I made this one after a customer asked me for something that was ocean-themed but also worked as a fashion piece, not the usual kinda cartoony fish stuff. She wanted it on a linen tote for a craft fair in april and said it sold the bag before she even had it out of the box. Since then its been one of my steadiest sellers for the gothic and boho crowd aswell.

Try it on cream or oatmeal linen for the full effect. The charcoal bell on a pale natural fabric looks like an old ink drawing and the pink flowers pop beautifully against it. Also looks great on a dark navy cotton tee if you want the moody version. Use a tear-away stabiliser on woven linen, standard weight, and slow the machine slightly on the cross-hatch sections of the bell so the density stays crisp. Ping me if you hit trouble with the file and Ill have a look straightaway. Stitch slow on the detail areas. Skip dark fabric for the colour-popping designs. Pop a firm cutaway behind any stretch knit. Drop me a chat if the file gives any trouble and Ill rework it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Linen tote bag fashion pieceCream oatmeal linen tote is the obvious home for this one, the inky charcoal bell reads like a watercolour print against the weave.
  • Dark tee gothic aestheticScarf corner on a dark navy wool scarf, the blush flowers show really well where the bell disappears into the dark ground.
  • Framed wall hoop for boho decorRound wooden hoop at 6 inches for a boho shelf display, the vertical tentacle arrangement fills the circular frame naturally.
  • Denim jacket sleeve embroideryDenim jacket sleeve panel at the 4-inch keeps it subtle without burying the petal detail.
  • Cushion cover centrepieceLeather diary cover at the medium size, stitch on cream linen and sew the whole piece as a bookcloth wrap.
  • Pencil case or pouch embroideryBeach blanket corner at 3.5 inches repeated twice, one corner each end of a cream cotton throw.
  • Beach dress or sarong hem detailMakeup bag front panel at the 5-inch for a gothic-botanical accessory gift that nobody else will have.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
