This dolphin is going for it. Mouth wide open, whole body tilted at about 45 degrees, launching clean out of a breaking wave. The body is big cerulean blue on top with a lighter sky-blue sheen across the midback, and the belly runs salmon-peach fading into an orange-tan near the jaw. It reads warmer and more dramatic than the typical grey dolphin you see on most ocean designs.

The wave below is built in 3 layers, dark navy at the base, mid blue through the swell, and pale lavender-white foam at the crest where it shatters outward. Water droplets scatter to both sides and a few loose directional stitch lines trace the motion through the curl. Nine colours in the sequence, 8 thread changes, and 163 trims on the mid sizes which sounds alot but the Wilcom stitch pathing is clean so the machine doesnt labour through it. Stitch counts run from 21,146 on the 3.5-inch up to 54,558 on the 7-in top.

I been digitising ocean designs for 3 years and this one has the most realistic wave motion of any I've done. One customer emailed me last week saying she stitched the 6-inch on a charcoal denim jacket and it looked like a tattoo design. Thats exactly the energy I was going for with the bold satin columns and the tight directional work on the dorsal fin.

Try charcoal or dark navy for maximum contrast, the blue body and pale foam really jump on dark ground. White or cream cotton also works well if you want the aqua tones to stay true. Avoid mid-tone blue fabrics because the body blends right in. Use a cutaway stabiliser underneath, the density is 1,067 and the dense wave sections need solid backing. Iron a topping over textured fabrics before hooping.

Nine sizes go from 3.5 x 3.18 inches up to 7.5 x 6.82 inches. Text me if the file format isnt loading in your machine software and Ill sort out a replacement fast. Email me a chat message if the punch needs work and Ill fix it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Denim jacket back or chest panelCharcoal denim jacket back at 6 inches, my customer said it read like a tattoo design and honestly I cant disagree.
  • Beach bag canvas toteSurf shop staff polo left chest at 4 inches, the salmon belly makes it memorable next to the usual plain navy designs.
  • Surf shop staff polo shirtsBeach blanket corner at the mid size so the ocean splash sits at the fold edge and frames the whole blanket layout.
  • Boys hoodie front panelBoys hoodie chest at 5 inches for a year-round ocean look that doesnt feel like a summer novelty.
  • Ocean themed bedroom cushionCanvas tote centre panel at full 7-in for a beach bag where the action-poster energy is the whole point.
  • Youth swim team bag patchSwim team canvas bag patch at 4 inches with the team name running directly below in a simple block stitch.
  • Coastal home decor wall hoopFramed hoop at 7 inches on dark navy mat, the wave layers read almost three-dimensional at that scale.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
